The City of Abbotsford is pleased to share that it has a rewarding opportunity for a seasoned HR/LR leader to join our team as the Director of Human Resources. Reporting to the General Manager, Innovation, Strategy and Intergovernmental Relations, the Director provides strategic leadership, direction, and management to the City’s human resources function in support of its vision, mission, values, and strategic plan.
The City’s HR team is a collection of engaged and driven professionals, who are passionate about the services they provide. The team is comprised of 15 people, who provide HR/LR advisory services, occupational health and safety expertise, disability management, employee wellness, employee engagement, succession and workforce planning, diversity and inclusion, people data and analytics support and services to the City. The position has four direct reports: Senior Manager, Human Resources, Occupational Health and Safety Senior Manager, People Development Senior Manager & HR Data and Analytics Coordinator.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced human resource leader with a proven track record of expertise across all facets of human resources including complex labour relations, disability management, occupational health, and safety, and people development.
In addition to delivering strategic counsel and guidance across the organization’s people practices, this role is also responsible for actively participating in union relations, contract administration, policy development, recruitment, succession planning, exempt compensation, HR reporting, and advancing employee wellness and engagement. Proficiency with various HR management systems from both a user and back-end perspective is essential, along with a solid understanding of budgeting and payroll processes. Digital and data literacy, as well as experience using data to manage services and inform decision-making, are highly favored.
As a true Human Resources professional, you bring proven success in facilitating and supporting culture transformation through your ability to connect and build credibility at all levels of the organization. You are a seasoned leader who is confident in your knowledge of all aspects of HR practices and can provide expertise and support in all areas. You are a confident negotiator and mediator, adept at conflict resolution; you influence others through your exemplary written, verbal, and presentation skills. A strong leader who works collaboratively with peers; you are a caring coach and mentor to your team.
You will have a degree in human resources, labour relations, business administration, law, or public administration complemented by a minimum of 10 years’ experience in progressive HR generalist roles within a unionized environment, with a focus on labour relations being an asset. You will also have at least 5 years’ experience in a leadership role. A CPHR designation and municipal experience is also an asset.
