QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

As the successful candidate,

  • You possess a University degree and several years of related experience as well as leadership/management experience, or an equivalent combination of related training and experience including budget planning, managing staff, and attendance management.
  • You have experience planning and implementing strategies, engaging, and motivating a diverse team, and ensuring quality and efficient client service.
  • You hold significant experience interpreting and applying a variety of legislation.
  • You must have a proven background of developing strong relationships at all levels within an organization as well as with external clients and stakeholders.
  • You have demonstrated the ability to develop people and relationships to effect positive change in a dynamic environment.
  • You have strong communication and negotiation skills, and you shape a positive organizational climate and culture, developing people and relations to effect positive change.

Experience in a related regulatory environment and with the applicable legislation, as well as change management would be definite assets.

Responsibilities:

  • The incumbent is responsible for providing short and long-term planning for the division by developing, implementing and administering policies, procedures and guidelines pursuant to the Gaming Control, Liquor Control and the Theatre and Amusements Acts and regulations (Liquor Licensing, Casino, Atlantic Lottery, Bingo, Bingo Suppliers, Carnival and Charitable Gaming, Ticket Lottery, Video Lottery, Theatres and Amusements) and providing interpretation of these pieces of legislation.
  • The incumbent is responsible for organizing, implementing and motivating a modern and effective inspection team to ensure that an efficient inspection program is maintained to achieve fair, consistent and effective regulatory compliance by improving the quality of service and ensuring equitable treatment to the public, licensees and other stakeholders.
  • The Director evaluates disciplinary matters and approves matters to be forwarded to the Executive Director and for hearings before the Utility and Review Board.
  • Leads a team which includes two Regional Managers, a technical staff of 4 and 33 other staff
