WHAT TO EXPECT:
The Bay is seeking a lawyer with at least four years of corporate-commercial experience at a reputable law firm and/or as an in-house counsel (ideally a retail environment). The successful candidate will be expected to draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to many aspects of the retail business, provide strategic and proactive advice on a wide variety of issues, serve as the legal lead for cross-functional projects, and advise on governance and policy matters. In collaboration with The Bay’s cross-functional teams, the Director, Legal Counsel will be entrusted to provide day-to-day counsel as well as recommendations on policies/compliance protocols to protect The Bay, its customers, its employees, and other third-party partners.
Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including those related to technology, supply chain/logistics, financial services, licensing, marketing, consulting, and other operational and vendor agreements
- Provide strategic advice and guidance to stakeholders regarding business and legal issues and risks across a wide range of portfolios including financial services, supply chain/logistics, CASL, privacy/information security, consumer protection, and other commercial and regulatory compliance matters
- Manage disputes and oversee litigation including settlement negotiations and agreements.
- Serve as the legal lead on various company-wide projects and initiatives
- Issue-spot legal and business concerns within complex deals and coordinate with cross-functional teams to minimize risk
- Provide support for the rest of the Legal team on an as-needed basis
