Job Description
AECOM Water is seeking a Director for Major Projects and Programs.
Reporting directly to the Director of Operations and working closely with the Regional Business Line Leader for Water, the VP Major Projects and Programs is responsible for planning and directing the successful deliver of Major Projects and Programs for the Water business line in Canada Region providing operational, project delivery, and technical leadership which includes: project and program management and delivery, technical excellence, client satisfaction, quality, safety, resource allocation, and employee development and training. The Project and Program Managers for the Water Business Line’s Major Projects and Programs will report directly to this Vice President position.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with the Director of Operations and Regional Business Line Leader in identifying, developing and implementing objectives, setting up KPIs , guidelines and targets for Water Canada’s Major Projects and Programs.
  • Provide a broad business perspective and be a constructive participant in the overall management of the BL.
  • Working with the Major Project and Program Managers in the identification, establishment and implementation of execution strategies to maximize Project and Program outcomes: Safety, Quality, Customer Satisfaction, Staff Development, Profitability and Cash Flow.
  • To provide guidance, direction and support to the Major Project and Program Managers on the performance of their duties.
  • Ensuring that workshare including the deployment of Enterprise Capability resources is effectively deployed on Water Canada’s Major Projects and Programs.
  • Overseeing financial tools necessary to monitor anticipated and actual project and program delivery results; identifying opportunities concerns and projections and working proactively with the Major Project and Program Managers to mitigate risks on their Projects and Programs.
  • Partner with Finance to monitor Major Project and Program delivery performance toward ensuring that financial goals and operational excellence are achieved.
  • For Major Project and Programs: actively contribute to win strategies and successful execution; being involved at a ‘Hands -On’ level in key pursuits as needed and on projects and programs should issues impacting client satisfaction or project management best practices escalate.
  • Represent the BL through attendance at key industry and community events.
  • Support and drive corporate and BL initiatives and policies.
  • Ensuring corporate and BL compliance with H&S, Ethics, etc.
  • Analyzes Major Project and Program performance within the regional Business Line and proactively identifies areas of improvement; this includes analyzing key KPIs such as TRIR, NPS, utilization, gross margin, EBITA and DSO.
  • Collaborates with all disciplines in the Region on delivery of business plans.
  • Responsible for Major Project and Program delivery and client service: project staffing, workload balancing, and technical work in accordance with client expectations, contract scope of work and budget, and to company, professional, quality, safety and legislative standards.
  • Core competencies in professional staff development, mentorship, and retention are critical. In an executive oversight role, supports the continued growth and development of a professional environment for a creative enterprise, built on design and delivery excellence.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES GENERAL:

  • Supports the Regional Business Line Leader (RBLL) for the business line and the DOO for the Business Line to deliver excellence in Major Project and Program Delivery

FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE:

  • Develops technical standards and implements best practices in project and program delivery leveraging AECOM’s Project Delivery System as the framework.Acts as an advisor to clients and acts as an advisor to others on client expectations, project and program delivery. Serves as top advisor on projects and programs of large scope and complexity.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

  • Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with senior level region, business line and technical experts within the company and with other organizations and companies.
    Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

In order to be considered for the position, candidates must have at a minimum:

  • No less than a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Planning or related field and 12 years of relevant experience in the Design and Building industry, including 4 years of leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 15 years of increased supervisory, management and operational/financial experience. Industry related experience is essential.
  • Excellent supervisory and leadership skills, including strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to identify, develop and plan business strategy efforts and analyzing business results based on a strong understanding of the AEC industry.
  • Proven ability to implement key initiatives in a manner which facilitates teamwork and goal attainment.
  • Experience in the Water and Power industry an asset
  • Proven delivery as Project Manager on large complex projects
  • Proven record of delivering work, managing teams, and development of a collaborative practice
