DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNTING

Avenir Energy’s Director of Accounting is responsible to ensure balance sheet integrity, for maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all assets, liabilities, and equity. This involves:
-

Financial Reporting: Preparing and presenting accurate financial statements, balance sheets, profit and loss accounts, and other financial reports to management, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.

  • Tax Compliance: Together with our outsourced tax expert ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations. Preparing and filing tax returns, and coordinating with external auditors and tax consultants.
  • General Ledger Management: Maintaining and overseeing the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with accounting and tax standards. Knowledge of US GAAP would be an asset.
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable: Supervising the processing of invoices, payments, and receipts, and ensuring timely collection of receivables and payment of liabilities. Manage accounts payable master data.
  • Inventory: Leading inventory counts and reconciling inventory records with actual stock levels to ensure accurate reporting and minimize discrepancies.
  • Fixed Assets: Leading fixed asset counts, ensuring proper tracking, valuation, and recording of fixed assets, and managing asset depreciation schedules.
  • Cash: Reconciling cash accounts with bank statements to ensure accuracy, identify discrepancies, and resolve any issues in a timely manner.
  • Internal Controls: Developing and implementing internal controls to safeguard company assets, ensure financial data integrity, and prevent fraud as well as prevent errors and misstatements in the financial statements.
  • Audit Coordination: Coordinating with internal and external auditors, ensuring all audit requirements are met, and implementing recommendations from audit findings.
  • Team Leadership: Managing and training the accounting team, setting goals, and ensuring professional development to maintain a high-performing team.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Staying updated with changes in accounting and tax laws and standards, ensuring the company’s accounting practices are compliant with regulations (e.g., IFRS, GAAP).
  • Policy Development: Developing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and consistency in financial operations.
  • Liaison with Other Departments: Collaborating with other departments (such as HR, Sales, Operations) to provide financial insights and support for decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration
  • 10+ years of experience in progressive finance leadership roles
  • 2+ years leadership experience
  • CPA Designation
  • Solid communications, technology, analytical and management skills
  • Knowledge of NetSuite or USA Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of Canadian Tax and reporting compliance
