Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Develops, organizes, and implements high quality YMCA aquatic programs. The Director of Aquatics must be energetic and demonstrate the YMCA character traits of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility while being able to develop community relationships with members, other organizations, and staff.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the CEO/CXO to set the vision and goals for the aquatics program.
- Work a minimum of 15 hours per week on the pool deck, including teaching swim lessons, and the remaining hours per week conducting administrative duties, including off-site meetings to advance the aquatics program.
- Lead and supervise aquatics full-time staff and part-time staff, and aquatics program activities to achieve YMCA objectives.
- Represent the aquatics department in a variety of settings, including Board meetings, committee meetings, and off-site meetings as needed.
- Plan personal shifts and manage time to ensure coverage and maintenance of all aspects of the aquatics department, including mornings, evenings, and/or weekends, as needed.
- Establish new program activities and expand aquatics programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Maintain current Lifeguard Instructor certification and other relevant certifications (CPR, etc.). Must complete CPO certification in 90 days and keep current while employed with the YMCA.
- Supervise management of aquatics program budget, including budget development, expense monitoring, and revenue generation.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations, including but not limited to RFPRA, United Way, Foundation Camp, and others, and potential donors to advance the mission of the YMCA.
- Lead the growth and sustainability of the year-round learn-to-swim program to meet program objectives and maximize revenue.
- Supervise all facets of staffing, including recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, motivating, and evaluating employees.
- Supervise daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Oversee proper maintenance of the pool, including accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
- Direct lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid/ CPR training, and monthly Aquatics in-service meetings.
- Assist in the development of marketing for aquatics programs.
- Support YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
- Address member and community inquiries promptly and cordially.
- Evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of aquatics programs, and work with other aquatics staff and CXO to ensure programs are meeting the needs of members and the community.
- Oversee scheduling of birthday parties and special events at off-site facilities.
- Perform additional duties to advance our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our organization’s values
