Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Camping will provide leadership, management, and supervision of high-quality camp programming including, but not limited to, Camp Birkett, Out of School Time camps and teen leadership programs. The Director will work under the direction of the Senior Director of Youth Development (SDYD) and in accordance with Ann Arbor YMCA core values, Youth Development Practices, Diversity, Inclusion, and Global Initiatives, Character Development Framework, and Healthy Eating & Physical Activity Standards to develop and deliver innovative programming to youth and teens throughout the Y’s service area.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, human services, recreation or related field or equivalent professional experience in a related field is required.
  • Minimum age 21 (Michigan licensing requirement), 25 or older preferred (American Camping Association non-mandatory standard.
  • Supervisory experience in a child related setting and program development experience strongly preferred.
  • Must have use of reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license. Must successfully pass requirements to be placed on YMCA’s motor vehicle insurance. Ability to obtain a chauffeur’s driver’s license is required.
  • Understanding of American Camp Association, State of Michigan Licensing for children’s camps and State Environmental requirements is preferred. ACA Visitor preferred.
  • Understanding of program development, staff and volunteer training and development, budget development & fiscal management, and life spans of programs are a necessity.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills, organizational abilities, supervisory skills, and initiative in program development.
  • Multilingual ability is preferred.
  • Must be capable of using MS Office software, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Must be able to learn and use YMCA specific software within 30 days of employment. Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications must be attained within 90 days.
