Description:
Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, and in collaboration with the leadership team, the Director of Children & Youth Programs is responsible for leading the agency’s initiatives with respect to planning, delivery and evaluation of programs to support children, youth and their families.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s or a Master’s in a related discipline (equivalent work experience and training may be considered in the absence of post-secondary education).
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience in areas of community, social and/or health programs and services.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the day-to-day operations of child/youth/family programs and services (e.g. early intervention therapy services, school-aged therapy services, early childhood supports, services for neurodiverse youth and their families, services for refugee children and their families) in a non-profit is essential.
- Expertise in strategic and financial planning and human resources management.
- Demonstrated successes in community building and partnerships.
- Extensive working knowledge of all statues as they relate to government funded initiatives and programs.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of stakeholders and to build and manage relationships.
Responsibilities:
- Leads the implementation of SHARE’s child and youth focused programs (e.g. services for neurodiverse children/youth, early childhood services, parenting programs and supports, services for refugee children and their families, etc.), including collaborating with community partners, hiring and supervising relevant staff, program and budget oversight and management, project communications, contract management and reporting to funders, etc.
- Ensures that appropriate and effective operational support and supervision is provided to staff in the delivery of its current programs as well as any new initiatives within SHARE.
- Provides strong leadership to ensure that clients have the required services within the agency and in the community, when necessary.
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with funders (e.g. Ministry of Child and Family Development, Federal Government of Canada), and ensures programs meet all reporting and regulatory requirements of funders
- Cooperates with the management team in: operationalizing strategic priorities; program planning; compliance with all standards and policies; budget oversight and management; and collaboration with community stakeholders to secure services for our clients;
- Collaborates with SHARE’s management team to ensure that the organizational vision is carried in service delivery systems that subscribe to the strategic direction of the organization as set by the Board of Directors and the CEO.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of emerging trends and development in services and programs related to agency client groups including understanding of: child protection, the regulated health professions of speech language pathology, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy, early childhood development, adolescent development, behavioural intervention, supports for refugee children/youth and their families, etc. and the provincial justice system, child welfare and health systems and government support services for children, youth and their families in the lower mainland.
- Proposes and implements new initiatives; develops and implements action plans; conducts performance evaluations; and ensures that reports on all service and program areas are delivered within the timelines required.
- Strives to continue the tradition of SHARE’s service excellence and inspires staff while leading by example.
