ABOUT THE MINISTRY OF LABOUR, TRAINING AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT:

The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development plays a critical role in supporting the government’s efforts to serve workers and employers across the province. Our team is dedicated to effectively communicating policy initiatives and ensuring the public stays informed about key developments and opportunities in the labour, immigration, and skills development sectors.
We are seeking a Director of Communications to join our team.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing communication strategies that align with the Ministry’s priorities and the Minister’s initiatives. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, task-focused, and collaborative, capable of leading a team and making decisions while managing multiple ad hoc requests effectively.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (2-3 years minimum) in developing and executing successful communication campaigns with measurable results.
  • Experience working in a political or government environment.
  • Proficiency in managing social and digital media platforms for public figures or organizations.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics for diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, including ad hoc requests, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to lead a team effectively and make sound decisions under pressure.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience in media relations, including managing press releases, media inquiries, and crisis communications.
  • Familiarity with government processes and communications standards.
  • Experience working directly with senior leadership or public officials.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fluency in English is required.
    Job Type: Full-time
    Pay: $100,000.00-$130,000.00 per year

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, and execute comprehensive communication campaigns that effectively convey the Ministry’s message to workers and the public across the province.
  • Oversee the creation, maintenance, and distribution of all communications materials, ensuring alignment with government positions.
  • Respond to media inquiries and manage relationships with media outlets, editorial boards, and other communication channels.
  • Manage the Minister’s social and digital channels, ensuring consistent messaging and public engagement.
  • Advise the Minister, Chief of Staff, and Senior Leadership on effective strategies to engage diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with the Operations and Stakeholder Relations teams to support the delivery of public announcements and events.
  • Work closely with other departments, the Parliamentary Assistant, and caucus members’ offices to ensure consistent messaging and collaboration.
  • Be adaptable to other roles as needed, including issues management, operational support, and stakeholder relations.
