Job Summary
The Director of Donor Relations & Stewardship is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive stewardship program that fosters a culture of gratitude and recognition for donors at all levels. This role involves strategic planning, relationship management, and the creation of innovative stewardship initiatives to enhance donor engagement and retention. The Director will work closely with the development team, senior leadership, and other stakeholders to ensure that all donors are appropriately acknowledged, recognized, and informed about the impact of their contributions. Serving as a key thought partner, the Director helps to build a program of excellence that fosters a culture of philanthropy, demonstrate the impact of philanthropy, inspires action, and aligns with CSULB mission and values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Donor Recognition & Communication: Oversee stewardship plans for recognition societies, including the Legacy Society (planned gift donors) and Carillon Society (cumulative lifetime giving), that promote giving sustainability and recognize donors based on the level and consistency of support.
  • Gift & Beach Scholarship Stewardship: Oversee & execute the annual Beach Scholarship Stewardship for the university.
  • Relationship Management: Work closely with the Development team to develop tailored stewardship plans for major and principal donors.
  • Data Management & Reporting: Oversee the tracking and analysis of stewardship activities and donor engagement metrics.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and inspire donors, and to navigate through difficult and complex donor-related situations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail. Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute innovative stewardship strategies. Proficiency in donor database management and reporting tools. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Experience navigating through difficult and complex donor-related situations. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to navigate through difficult and complex donor-related situations. Demonstrated experience in planning and strategizing. Computer literacy, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications. Ability to travel off-campus and be generally competent in the use of contemporary office equipment.

Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of related experience required. Advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in stewardship, donor’s relations, or fundraising with proven track record of developing in implementing successful stewardship programs is preferred.
  • Occasional event and weekend work assignments. May be asked to represent the University at weekend and/or evening events.

Physical Summary
Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

CSU MPP Compensation Summary Range: The MPP Comp Summary Range for this position is $7,955 - $11,933 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
