BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctorate degree & 4 years of Engineering, Physical Sciences or related areas experience OR
  • Master’s degree & 8 years of Engineering Physical Sciences or related areas experience, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree & 10 years of Engineering, Physical Sciences or related areas experience
    In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have at least 4 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • M.S. in Electromechanical Power Conversion or Electrical engineering, or related areas experience with 10+ years of experience in the Medical Device industry and Pharmaceutical Industry
  • Leadership experience in building and developing hard-working teams, delivering results and shaping the future
  • Managing cross-functional teams, with responsibilities including allocating of resources, prioritization of activities and manage multiple team members to support business needs in a fast pace environments
  • Business acumen that lends itself to understanding the context and dynamics of pharmaceutical challenges that impact Platform alignment
  • Strategic thinking about issues impacting an entire portfolio of therapeutics versus Platform adherence
  • Direct and In-direct staff management experience; including performance management, hiring and onboarding, and staff development
  • Direct experience with medical devices in Biotechnology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills together with demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience with the fill finish manufacturing process (glass/elastomers/polymers), device assembly and packaging for medical (aseptic) applications.
  • A passion to deliver excellent work product, develop others with an infective positive attitude

This director role is part of our Combination Product Operation (CPO) Development & Lifecycle group and supports technical teams in the successful design, testing and commercialization of electromechanical drug delivery devices.
The Director of Engineering for Electromechanical Platforms interacts with global and multi-functional members from systems engineering, process engineering, device development, packaging, primary containers, device quality, and other groups. Responsibilities of this position include leading the development, testing, transfer, and life cycle management of multiple electromechanical devices. Development activities will include engineering, characterization, and GMP verification testing.
The position requires a strong proficiency in technical team management, drug combination product technologies and regulatory requirements. This role will also work with vendors and Amgen suppliers to facilitate the proper planning and execution of design activities, testing, and method development.
This role requires the coordination and development of transparent, objective, and informed planning across the Global and US organizations to leverage the combination product platform ecosystem. This Director role’s responsibility as functional org-leader managing professional engineering team.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Provide leadership, oversight, and overall representation to Amgen’s Electromechanical (EM) Combination Product platforms
  • Be accountable for on time execution of EM devices projects, landmarks and key deliverables to maintain supply
  • Manage governance body that oversees the EM platforms activities
  • Provide Platform domain expertise in Fit to Platform Assessments, Product Technical Review, and Lifecycle management product strategies
  • Identify product issues/opportunities for ‘in scope’ device platforms and support business case for cross product implementation (within Operations, R&D, and global Commercial)
  • Determine platform devices enhancement opportunities and needs to proactively address future portfolio needs
  • Provide engineering team-appropriate prioritizing of programs, including product lifecycle management and compliance related activities
  • Direct management of engineering team responsible for technical execution and life cycle management activities
