EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor of Science degree (B. S.) in Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university; Professional Engineering Registration, and ten years of manufacturing industry experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Val-Matic is a “People First” company—we prioritize our co-workers and customers. This position requires leading people and engineering functions together.
  • Responsible for the staffing and managing the day-to-day activities of the Engineering Department, including Quality Assurance, to meet the stated objectives.
  • Responsible for developing and executing growth strategies for the company. This may include supporting the other subsidiaries within the A. Y. McDonald family of companies.
  • Budgeting: Responsible for the preparation, enforcement and monitoring of the Engineering budgets.
  • Standards: Responsible for developing and implementing all Product and Engineering Calculation standards. Plan and implement the necessary tests to verify product performance and safety.
  • Technical Library: Responsible for the development and maintenance of a Technical Library, which shall include applicable documents in the areas of Codes, material sciences, mechanical design, and valve design and testing.
  • Technical Literature: Responsible for the technical content of product literature, including suggested specifications, white papers, application software, and product application guides.
  • Agency Approvals: Responsible for the maintenance of drawings, preparation of information, and representation at meetings necessary for UL, FM, NSF 61, ISO and US Government approvals.
  • Technical Support: Responsible for preparing technical materials and application suggestions to support company sales. Conduct plant and field investigations under adverse conditions to evaluate product installations and problems. Respond to customer calls or inquiries about technical questions on valve applications. Conduct sales calls or technical presentations nationwide at offices, job sites, or technical conferences.
  • Quality: Responsible for implementing design control systems to continually improve the manufacturing process and ensure quality production information is available. Maintain design control procedures to meet the requirements of ISO 9001. Oversee development of the ISO 9001 Company Quality System.
  • CAD: Responsible for selecting and maintaining the necessary CAD hardware, software, and printing devices.
  • Design and Development: Maintain a working knowledge of mechanical design, test methods, and flow equations for application to valve design. Assist in the development of manufacturing technologies such as rubber molding, welding, etc. Attend design conferences to stay current with the latest technologies.
  • Industry: Responsible for representing the Company and serving on technical committees in industry organizations, including AWWA, API, MSS, ASTM, and ASM.
  • Legal Work: Responsible for patent applications and patent maintenance for the Company. Testify as an expert witness in patent infringement or liability cases if necessary.
  • Product Roadmap:
  • Actively participate in the development of the company’s product roadmap.
  • Execution of the product roadmap via managing engineering resources, timelines, budget, and customer expectations.
  • Inclusion of appropriate standard, quality, safety, internal manufacturing/vendor process quality controls, testing and cost from the beginning of the product development cycle.
