Description:

Job Title: Director of Finance
Reports to: CEO, Group of Companies (British Academy of Jewellery, The Koppel Project, Hub Education)
Line Management Responsibility: External Accountants, Finance Team
Working hours: 40 hours per week, 9am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday
Location: London (with travel between company offices if required)
Salary: Competitive, based on experience

QUALIFICATIONS:

ACCA, CIMA, or ACA qualified (or equivalent).

EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven experience as a Financial Director or in a similar senior financial leadership role, preferably in a group of companies or multiple-entity organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting in diverse business environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a collaborative approach to working across multiple businesses and departments.
  • Proven track record of identifying financial challenges and providing innovative solutions.
  • Experience in education, arts, or creative industries.
  • Familiarity with the financial regulations applicable to charitable organisations or non-profits.

Responsibilities:

JOB PURPOSE:

The Financial Director (FD) will play a critical role in overseeing the financial functions across the group of companies: the British Academy of Jewellery (BAJ), Free2Learn (F2L), The Koppel Project, and Hub Education.
Reporting directly to the CEO, the FD will work closely with the Principal of BAJ, Free2Learn, and Hub Education, and the Director of Operations at The Koppel Project to ensure robust financial management, efficient budgeting, and accurate reporting.
The FD will be responsible for financial strategy, payroll, and ensuring compliance with accounting and funding standards. Additionally, the role will require collaboration with external accountants, funding and regulatory bodies, and auditors as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement the financial strategy for the group of companies, ensuring long-term financial health and alignment with business objectives.
  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes for all entities, working closely with senior leadership to ensure accurate and timely financial projections.
  • Prepare and present financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Provide actionable insights to support decision-making at both strategic and operational levels.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of all financial transactions, maintaining compliance with accounting regulations and legal requirements.
  • Oversee the work of external accountants and ensure adherence to statutory requirements, tax filings, and audits.
  • Oversee payroll processes for all companies, ensuring timely payments and compliance with employment regulations.
  • Work closely with HR and external payroll providers to manage employee compensation.
  • Establish and maintain robust financial controls and procedures to mitigate risks and safeguard company assets.
  • Serve as a financial advisor to the CEO and senior leadership, providing guidance on financial implications of business decisions.
  • Work closely with the Principal of BAJ and Hub Education, and the Director of Operations at The Koppel Project, to support their operational needs.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, regulatory bodies, business partners, and financial institutions to ensure smooth financial operations and compliance with external requirements.
