EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 5 years progressive related experience
  • Diploma from a Community College in a related field or equivalent
  • Successful completion of an accredited program as a Food Service Supervisor/Nutrition Manager.
  • Holds current membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management - CSNM.
  • Proven supervisory experience in a unionized long term care setting.
  • Must be knowledgeable of nutritional needs of the residents in an LTC home.
  • Must be knowledgeable of HVAC equipment, computerized building management systems, electrical systems distribution, fire alarm and sprinkler systems including operation of and testing requirements, emergency diesel generator operations.
  • Must demonstrate a creative flair for menu planning, preparation, and presentation.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the Ontario Food Premises Regulation, Food Safety Code of Practice and Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating, CCHSA/ORCA, Ontario’s Long Term Care Home Program manual, and OH&S Act and regulations, and have knowledge of the inspection protocol process.

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

As a member of the peopleCare management team, the Director of Food & Environmental Services manages all aspects of the Food Services, Maintenance, Housekeeping, and Laundry departments within the facility to meet the needs of residents. This position is responsible for achieving high standards of quality service in accordance with legislative requirements and peopleCare policies and procedures.
Reports to: Executive Director

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in the hiring, training, and orientation process of the Food Services and Environmental Services departments.
  • Responsible for all workforce management-related tasks for the Food Services and Environmental Services departments (scheduling, timecard authorization, performance management, attendance management, etc.).
  • Controls the operational department budgets and manages other financial-related tasks.
  • Ensures compliance with all provincial/long-term care regulations and established peopleCare requirements.
  • Conducts daily inspections of the departments to identify/resolve any potential hazards or problems.
  • Develops specific procedures, policies, work patterns and routines, for Home, such as: preventative maintenance checklists, delivering supplies, and the removal of garbage, laundry routines, janitorial and housekeeping routines.
  • Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team in the development and evaluation of Resident care plans and attending Resident Care Conferences.
  • Attends Resident Council and Family Council when invited.
  • Assists in Union matters related to grievance procedures, labour relations management, and contract negotiations, when necessary.
  • Works with Food Services team, Dietitian, residents, and their families to ensure resident dietary needs are met.
  • Responsible for full-cycle maintenance process (determining scope of work, sourcing a contactor, ensuring contract is paid).
  • Ensures the departments maintain the Home in a clean and sanitary fashion.
  • Participates in committee meetings such as Infection Control, Quality Management, Occupational Health and Safety as required.
  • Maintains all required records in accordance with policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
    Other duties as required.
