Description:

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Human Resources Director will lead the Human Resources functions at Dillard University, driving strategic initiatives to support an evolving organizational environment. This role is ideal for a forward thinking individual who thrives in a startup-like atmosphere and is passionate about implementing positive change to enhance culture and operational effectiveness. A commitment to leading people with compassion and heart, innovation and continuous improvement is essential for this role. This position develops policy, directs, and coordinates human resource activities, such as employment, compensation, labor relations, benefits, training, and employee services, by performing the following duties: consulting with and influencing the senior cabinet and other leaders in the effective deployment and utilization of human capital.

EDUCATION

Master’s Degree preferred, plus an in-depth knowledge of public sector and higher education human resources practices and familiarity with governmental affirmative action guidelines preferred.

EXPERIENCE

5 - 7 years of professional HR experience required. Experience in higher education is preferred. Employee relations experience is a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Knowledge of HR-related laws and requirements.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Strong influence skills and compassion.
Strong people management/development skills and experience.
Ability to coach and train individuals in critical HR competencies.
Ability to build and maintain relationships with management, associates, and HR team members.
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Quantitative measurement and management reporting and analytical skills.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to Dillard style and format.

COMPUTER SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software, Human Resource systems, Payroll systems, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software. Preferably ADP and Google Suite.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

Analyzes wage and salary reports and data to determine competitive compensation plans.
Prepares personnel forecast to project employment needs.
Consult and collaborate with management: analyze, develop, and implement solutions for strategic, tactical, and operational problems, including those involving business productivity, efficiency, and risk and cost management.
Perform various complex human resources duties, directing specific projects and programs and investigating and analyzing complex problems encountered in the operations of assigned business units or locations.
Provide consulting, advisory, and investigative support on issues such as employee grievances, performance management, compensation, policy, and organizational effectiveness.
Coordinate a variety of HR matters pertinent to employment, including authorizations, recruiting and hiring, job analysis, employee performance ratings, and job classifications, education and development programs, terminations, and retirements.
Influencing decisions in matters pertaining to transfers, promotions, demotions, leaves, and disciplinary action, ensuring equitable treatment of employees, and implementing actions designed to assist management in the effective and efficient conduct of the line of business.
Develop effective communications between and among management and employees to promote education, inclusiveness, and positive morale.
Identify opportunities for achieving reduced costs and increased productivity.
Assist management in the effective implementation of enterprise and HR strategies and objectives regarding workforce diversity and affirmative action, ensuring compliance with all EEO policies.
Advise department managers on policy regarding equal employment opportunities, compensation, and employee benefits.
Consult legal counsel to ensure that policies comply with federal and state law.
Develops and maintains a human resources system that meets top management information needs.
Oversees the analysis, maintenance, and communication of records required by law, local governing bodies, or other departments in the organization.
Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems. Knowledge of ADP is strongly desired.
Studies legislation, arbitration decisions, and collective bargaining contracts to assess industry trends.
Represents management in negotiating collective bargaining agreements.
Writes and delivers presentations to corporate officers or government officials regarding human resources policies and practices.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will supervise employees in the Human Resources Department.
