About the Role
Join us as Director of Investment Governance at AIA Investment Management!
As the functional leader, the Director of Investment Governance is expected to deliver holistic advice and solutions, showing sound professional judgement balancing considerations from an AIA-wide perspective as well as specific local regulatory requirements, including those of the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
This position is expected to make a leadership contribution with respect to AIA Investment’s delivery of the long-term vision of AIA corporate strategy by strengthening investment capabilities to further investment outcomes with demonstrable understanding, acceptance, and management of associated risks, as part of an overall AIA culture of responsibility and accountability.
This role requires a solid working knowledge of asset ownership and asset management, related regulatory and compliance requirements and strong understanding of the legal construct and structure of AIA, AMCs, CISs, SPVs and Insurance companies working in multiple jurisdictions.

This position is responsible for:

  • Building senior stakeholder trust and relationships to ensure a strong governance culture and demonstrably accountability within the In-Scope Entities.
  • Leading the investment governance framework (IGF) implementation for the Group AMC and CISs.
  • Supporting Group AMC in the consolidation and execution of non-financial risk activities (coordination, collation, data quality), providing guidance/training and acting as a conduit for general first line controls/ governance matters for Group AMC and CISs.
  • Enhancing management committee governance for Group AMC, including set-up, ongoing maintenance, reporting and escalation.
  • Proactive engagement on regulatory visits and audits.
  • Identifying regulatory direction and risk trends for the In-scope Entities on a forward-looking basis.
  • Working in close collaboration with the Head/Director of Investment Governance:
  • on the design, continuous improvement and interaction of the IGF and other AIA-wide governance frameworks, including those related to risk, compliance and corporate governance;
  • Proactive influence and facilitation of Monitoring and Assurance as well as Audit.

This position is expected to:

  • Substantively contribute to the design, administration, communication and continuous improvement and efficiency of the IGF, including asset ownership and asset management and reconciliation with AIA-wide governance requirements.
  • Have oversight of reporting and analysis of investment errors and breaches across In-Scope Entities, in the context of AIA-wide requirements regarding risk incidents.
  • Facilitate ownership by functional owners and referees under the IGF.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance Governance, Risk and Compliance Culture across AIA Investment
  • Address Governance administration Group AMC and CISs, including exceptions, certifications, extensions and integration management.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for Risk, Compliance and Internal Audit functions for Group AMC and CISs in turn influencing and facilitating monitoring, assurance, and audit.
  • Exercise independent communication, judgement, advice and decision making in interacting with senior, cross functional stakeholders.
  • Lead Investment Governance initiatives and projects for Group Investments, as agreed with the Head/Director of Investment Governance from time to time.

Requirements

  • Minimum 12 years in risk, investment governance or investment compliance and/or related legal functions as applied to asset management and asset ownership.
  • Strong track record of building governance frameworks and oversight functions in a multi-jurisdiction and multi-operations large financial services organization.
  • Strong experience in change management.
  • High level understanding of operating conditions and regulations in Singapore and relevant jurisdictions for the In Scope Entities.
  • Strong influencing skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of the organization.
  • Independent and strong self-initiative.
