Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Vice President, Marketing and Communications, the Director of Marketing and Communications will help guide strategy and execution for external communications, and media relations (traditional and social) to articulate the National Kidney Foundation’s (NKF) mission and to reach consumer and professional audiences. The Director of Communications and Marketing will help guide the communications strategy to consistently articulate NKF’s position on newsworthy issues, as well as work closely with program and field staff within the organization to promote events, public health information and new research. The ideal candidate should have some experience working in media advocacy and/or scientific communications. They will also bring creativity to the role and develop strategies to maximize our visibility and build stronger relationships with journalists in key publications.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating communications plans for signature NKF initiatives in collaboration with the different NKF teams to ensure reach of target audience/constituents.
- Triage inbound earned media requests and see them through to completion.
- Develop communications strategies to create awareness of the National Kidney Foundation and our mission, as well as test the effectiveness of communications activities.
- Assist in drafting and implementation of media advocacy plans for federal policy campaigns, to demonstrate broad based public support for key policy initiatives.
- Assist our Government Relations team in the development of messaging and media strategy that is tailored to the specific political environment and attuned to the rapid pace of legislative activities.
- Draft speeches, presentations and other materials for as well as performing other communications roles as needed.
- Manage all media contacts
- Performs additional duties, as required.
