We’re looking for a progressive-thinking and innovative Director, Operations to join the Minerals & Metals leadership team in Vancouver. This role reports directly to the Vice President, Western Canada and is deeply involved in setting direction, growth planning, leading strategic initiatives, and ensuring that we’re working effectively to achieve our mission and meet financial goals.
- Reviewing business operations to look for opportunities to improve on the business’s profitability
- Completing the business planning cycle, including monthly re-forecasting, and developing budgets and plans
- Working closely with the Vice President to drive and roll out strategic initiatives that support the office’s strategic planning
- Working cross-functionally to structure problems, analyze opportunities, develop solutions and create actionable recommendations that drive results
- Strengthening the organization’s operational infrastructure including building and leading a study management office to drive results for studies, projects and initiatives
- Ensuring studies are adequately resourced and executed on time and on budget
- Analyzing business processes and developing a deep understanding of key value drivers to identify, prioritize and action improvement opportunities
- Building and nurturing client relationships by understanding each client’s business, organization and objectives
- Setting and maintaining utilization (billable) targets for the team and monitoring and adjusting where necessary
- Leading and enhancing the Ausenco culture amongst the Vancouver office
- Ensuring team members are allocated to the right roles on projects to maintain the target cost of employment rate
- Inspiring and engaging team members to achieve optimal performance through coaching, effective communication and ensuring growth and development opportunities
- Understanding accountabilities and demonstrating commitment to promoting and improving the health, safety, and wellbeing of Ausenco’s workforce and host communities
About You
You are a proven strategic business partner looking for your next challenge and can offer the following skills and experience:
- 18+ years’ progressive experience within a high-growth, dynamic organization, preferably in engineering, consulting or mining
- Proven track record of successfully running and growing Operational business lines
- Strong ability to interpret and analyze financial reports and budgets and use data and information to inform recommendations, decisions and outcomes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to create and deliver persuasive presentations
- Willingness to communicate and share a sense of direction and coach and mentor others to build business capability for the future
- Good commercial sense and experience expanding and developing business with new and existing clients
- Ability to move studies, projects and initiatives forward by working through complexity and uncertainty to drive projects to completion
- An entrepreneurial, influential, and creative approach to developing new, innovative ideas that will stretch the organization
- Comfort with ambiguity and complexity and an ability to both delve into details and engage meaningfully on overall strategy
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business
