The Director of Operations plays a crucial leadership role in ensuring the success of the manufacturing team by overseeing production operations, safety, quality assurance, and financial performance. This position is responsible for driving operational excellence, improving efficiencies, and maintaining compliance with industry regulations.
The Director of Operations leads a team of supervisors and staff, fostering a high-performing culture while maintaining a strong focus on team member relationships, continuous improvement, cost control, and strategic growth. By aligning production processes with organizational goals, this role directly contributes to the company’s profitability, customer satisfaction, and long-term success.
- Leadership & Team Development: Provide strategic direction, mentorship, and development opportunities to supervisors and production staff, ensuring a culture of accountability, empowerment, and continuous learning. Champion servant leadership and build strong cross-functional collaboration.
- Operational Excellence: Oversee all aspects of production, scheduling, warehouse, shipping & receiving, and maintenance. Drive adherence to food and human safety programs, regulatory guidelines, and operational best practices to ensure high-quality output and safe working conditions.
- Process Improvement & Lean Manufacturing: Utilize Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement methodologies to identify inefficiencies, optimize production workflows, reduce waste, and enhance overall manufacturing performance.
- Financial & Resource Management: Develop and oversee budgets, control costs related to labor, materials, and equipment, and optimize resource allocation to achieve financial and operational objectives.
- Regulatory Compliance & Safety: Ensure full compliance with HACCP, GMPs, OSHA, FDA, and other regulatory standards, implementing and enforcing company-wide safety and food security policies.
- Strategic Planning & Execution: Work closely with senior leadership to develop and execute operational strategies that align with company goals. Support capacity planning and scalability efforts to drive growth and efficiency improvements.
Requirements:
A minimum 7 to 10 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least five and up to 30 team members is required. You should have a strong background in production workflows, food safety regulations, human safety programs, financial oversight, continuous improvement, RCA (Root Cause Analysis), and Lean Manufacturing principles. Food manufacturing experience is strongly preferred but not required. Proficiency in Lean Six Sigma concepts, HACCP fundamentals, and ERP systems, strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills are all required for success in this role.
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field OR an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience is required.
You will utilize a variety of computer programs in this role. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and general computer skills is required, as is experience working with an ERP and operating general office equipment.
Physical requirements include the ability to walk, stand, sit, crouch, and use senses including touch, taste, smell, speak, and hear. You will often be in our Manufacturing facility, and must be able to support the production processes as necessary, which requires the ability to also enter the Warehouse, Freezer Building/Distribution Center, and Maintenance Shop. You must be able to lift up to 60 pounds with or without accommodation
