Description:

University of Pittsburgh Physicians seeks a Director of Visual Electrophysiology in Allegheny County, PA to direct the visual electrophysiology service for pediatric ophthalmology; lead and develop the service and staff; conduct research dealing with the understanding of human diseases and the improvement of human health; engage in clinical investigation, research and development, or other related activities; responsible for the research initiatives from members of the service; contribute to the research output of the clinical adult and pediatric ophthalmology service; teach and train medical students, residents, fellows, and other clinicians and scientists on subjects associated with visual electrophysiology; supervise electrophysiology technicians at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and UPMC Vision Institute, remotely and in person, to ensure safe and clinically hygienic set up of equipment for use in clinics; ensure upkeep of all equipment for visual electrophysiology; supervise acquisition of data from patients; interpret all tests with a clinical summary for providers; maintain and develop clinical protocols for visual electrophysiology; perform research and development for combined adult and pediatric visual electrophysiology; teach electrophysiology technicians, fellows, and residents the appropriate way to administer and interpret results, such as electroretinogram (ERG), multifocal electroretinogram (mfERG), and visual evoked potential (VEP).

  • Engage in clinical investigation, research and development, or other related activities;
  • Responsible for the research initiatives from members of the service;
  • Contribute to the research output of the clinical adult and pediatric ophthalmology service;
  • Teach and train medical students, residents, fellows, and other clinicians and scientists on subjects associated with visual electrophysiology;
  • Supervise electrophysiology technicians at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and UPMC Vision Institute, remotely and in person, to ensure safe and clinically hygienic set up of equipment for use in clinics;
  • Ensure upkeep of all equipment for visual electrophysiology;
  • Supervise acquisition of data from patients;
  • Interpret all tests with a clinical summary for providers;
  • Maintain and develop clinical protocols for visual electrophysiology;
  • Perform research and development for combined adult and pediatric visual electrophysiology;
  • Teach electrophysiology technicians, fellows, and residents the appropriate way to administer and interpret results, such as electroretinogram (ERG), multifocal electroretinogram (mfERG), and visual evoked potential (VEP).
  • Doctorate degree (Ph.D.), or equivalent, in Visual Electrophysiology, Biomedical Engineering, or related field; and
  • Seven (7) years of visual electrophysiology or related clinical science experience:

o delivering pediatric and adult visual electrophysiology services;
o developing and managing a full visual electrophysiology service;
o teaching and training students, trainees and technical/clinical staff;

o applying scientific and engineering principles in the research and development of technologies and clinical protocols in visual electrophysiology;

  • Onsite work required, with some telecommuting permissible.
