Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This is a key leadership position within our organization, leading the Operations function for the GOS sector including the Waterdown and Don Mills Wescam facilities and some smaller international locations. The Director of Operations will oversee the entire manufacturing process. Several senior managers will report directly to this role, including but not limited to Manufacturing, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Facilities, Manufacturing Engineering and Environmental Health & Safety.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops the manufacturing plan and establishes procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards.
  • Collaborates with leadership to develop and meet company goals while supplying expertise and guidance on operations projects and systems.
  • Achieves optimum employee levels with other indirect and material costs in order to meet annual budgetary plan.
  • Formulates and recommends manufacturing policies and programs that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.
  • Directs and monitors department management to accomplish goals of the manufacturing plan, implements Operations Strategy elements into manufacturing practices consistent with established manufacturing and safety procedures.
  • Acts as liaison between department management/subordinate levels, as well as executive/department manager levels to inform personnel of communications, decisions, policies and all matters that affect their performance, attitudes and results.
  • Hires, trains, develops and evaluates staff. Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Ensures compliance. Consults with Human Resources Department as appropriate.
  • Identifies, recommends and implements changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap, monitor scrap and rework data.
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100D requirements.
  • Implement and maintain quality control systems to ensure products meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Directs the establishment, implementation and maintenance of production standards.
  • Directs and coordinates various programs essential to manufacturing procedures (e.g., training, safety, housekeeping, cost reduction, worker involvement, security, etc.).
  • Initiates and coordinates major projects (e.g., plant layout changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs, improvement/technology actions etc.).
  • Participates in the development and formulation of long and short-range planning, policies, programs and objectives with the senior management team in the development and formulation of long and short-range planning, policies, programs and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with teams including Supply Chain, Engineering, Customer Support, Sales etc. to ensure sustained customer focus and business success.
  • Drives the adoption of new technologies and automation to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Report out to senior executive team.
