We are currently looking to fill the position of Director of Procurement, Real Estate and Corporate Security. As the Director, you will lead all strategic initiatives and operations within the Procurement, Real Estate and Corporate Security teams at Nova Scotia Power.

- The ideal candidate must have experience leading a strategic procurement function at a senior level and should also possess the appropriate experience leading the real estate function within an organization.
- Experience in an industrial, manufacturing, utility and/or oil and gas environment is preferred.
- To qualify you must have a university degree, experience working with complex commercial contracts.
- Strong relationship building and negotiation skills are a must
Responsibilities:
PROCUREMENT TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES:
You will oversee strategic sourcing, purchasing, distribution and inventory control activities within Nova Scotia Power. As part of the company’s multi-million-dollar capital budget, you will work closely with the asset management team and the respective business areas to develop and execute cost-effective procurement strategies to achieve short- and long-term objectives. You will also identify and implement strategies to continually improve department service levels, provide opportunities for diverse and underrepresented suppliers and minimize supply chain and third-party risk in procurement strategies.
SPECIFIC PROCUREMENT DUTIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- Responsible for development and support of an annual procurement business plan with specific total cost savings targets and goals for addressable spend.
- Develop and ensure the effective implementation of corporate procurement and supply chain strategies to harness economies of scale, drive economic value, and enable business growth.
- Lead data-driven process improvement projects within procurement including process development and improvement, training, maintenance and the refinement of the ERP technology platform (Oracle V12).
- Lead the continued development and implementation of the Supplier Diversity program.
- Ensure that supply chain and third-party risks are fully considered and mitigated as part of the procurement process.
- Monitor internal processes as they relate to the procurement function to ensure all areas key metrics and reporting are effectively managed.
- Ensure company purchases comply with company internal controls requirements.
- Maintain programs to monitor inventory levels and ensure that adequate and appropriate inventory is maintained for ongoing operational requirements.
- Demonstrate visible leadership to develop and maintain a safe and healthy workplace across multiple warehouses and storerooms.
REAL ESTATE TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES:
You will be responsible for leading and directing strategic initiatives and capital investments that optimize the company’s land and commercial real estate assets. Oversight of all land acquisitions, releases, easements required for NSP strategic initiatives are also a key responsibility for this position. The position also includes oversight of facilities, including corporate headquarters and regional depots across the province.
SPECIFIC REAL ESTATE DUTIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- Manage capital real estate projects through all stages of the planning, development and execution process.
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure real estate and facility needs are understood and met.
- Acquire real estate and property rights cost effectively to achieve corporate strategic objectives.
- Maintain, manage and divest the existing facilities and real estate in support of corporate strategy.
- Demonstrate visible leadership to develop and maintain a safe and healthy workplace across multiple office locations, depots and substation.
- Manage operating and capital budgets and identify opportunities for cost reductions.
Corporate Security Team Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for leading and directing our internal corporate security team to identify vulnerabilities and implement mitigation strategies for physical security threats, respond to and investigate physical security incidents, regularly assess the effectiveness of security measures, produce reports on security performance and implement company-wide security awareness programs to ensure employees understand the importance of security protocols and compliance.
SPECIFIC CORPORATE SECURITY DUTIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- Engage with stakeholders and provide expert guidance on security related topics and projects.
- Establish and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures to safeguard physical property.
- Regularly assess the effectiveness of security measures, produce reports on security performance, and recommend improvements to senior leadership.
- Ensure that appropriate resources are available to support the business with security-related incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Work with the business to proactively identify physical security threats and implement programs to prevent and mitigate those risks.
