The Opportunity
Cochlear has an opportunity for ac Director Product Lifecycle Engineering based in our Sydney offices. In this role, the successful Director Product Lifecycle Engineering will Build, manage, and maintain an effective and skilled Product Lifecycle Engineering (PLE) team to maintain Cochlear as the leader in implantable hearing.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the PLE sustaining projects portfolio across implants and sound processor in collaboration with stakeholders across the organization, including marketing, regulatory, regions, purchasing, and quality.
  • Chair PLE Sponsor Team providing governance and oversight of project selection and execution.
  • Act as a role model for collaboration & alignment with other groups across the organization particularly process engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory.
  • Identify and lead changes to process improvements across Cochlear’s engineering and quality procedures practices.
  • Champion development and recognition of the PLE discipline and processes. Ensure that learnings from PLE projects are fed back to the rest of the R&D organization.
  • Set priorities for short, medium & long-term sustaining projects to ensure ongoing supply and compliance for all products across implants, externals, and systems.

As the Director for PLE you will Champion the continuous development of skills and competences of the PLE discipline across R&D. You will be responsible in leading the activities to achieve and maintain product approvals, certifications and registrations with external regulatory bodies. Provide PLE methodology leadership across R&D with a view to maximize efficiency of project execution which maintaining/enhancing product performance, reliability and manufacturability.

Essential

  • Min 7 years post-qualification design & development experience as Project Manager role or similar.
  • Good understanding of design, components and architectures
  • Proactive and able to self-manage tasks and milestones
  • Experience in the regulated industry
  • Experience in leading a team with diverse skills
  • Coaching and developing teams for growth
  • Track record for successful delivery of projects on time, budget and quality.
  • Experience managing multi-discipline projects and delivering outcomes through cross divisional teams comprising of technical and non-technical professionals.
  • Ability to work independently with limited guidance
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills to all levels of the organization and to customers, vendors and partners.
  • Demonstrated excellent stakeholder management skills and an ability to influence for outcomes
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Ideal:

  • Experience in implant development or in the medical device industry
  • Broad discipline familiarity: mechanical, electrical, and systems
  • Tertiary qualifications in Management (MBA)

Education

  • Tertiary Qualifications – minimum bachelor’s degree in engineering
