JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Chief of Research Administration and Operations, the Director, Research Administration and Operations will have overall responsibility for the coordination, administration and operations of CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB) cancer and blood disorder research projects and programs; which are primarily delivered through the Paul Albrechtsen Research Institute CancerCare Manitoba, the CCMB Research Support Office (RSO), Clinical Trials Unit, and including the Leukemia, Blood and Marrow Transplant program (LBMT), and the Manitoba Prostate Centre (MPC).
The Director is responsible for directing CCMB research administration and operations, working closely with the Managers, and research and administrative officers to ensure all research projects and clinical trials are aligned with CCMB cancer and blood disorders research priorities and are successfully managed and monitored.
The Director will work closely with researchers to encourage, facilitate, support, and coordinate research projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
Completion of a master’s level degree in a health or science-related discipline;
Experience
7 years of experience working in a research/medical laboratory or other research environment
7 years of experience working collaboratively within a team environment with proven success through strong leadership and the building of collaborative relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, preferably in a research or lab environment
5 years of demonstrated experience developing/conceptualizing, implementing and monitoring strategic initiatives or change management
An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Skills and Abilities
Excellent risk mitigation and problem-solving skills
Strong business acumen including finance and budgeting
An understanding of necessary legal and regulatory documents related to research;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare various documents/reports and deliver presentations;
Demonstrated ability to think critically and formulate recommendations to senior leadership
Preferred
Doctorate level degree in a health- or science-related discipline;
Master of Business Administration, or equivalent;
Experience managing laboratory and/or research operations in a healthcare facility.
Required Licenses, Registrations, Designations
Active member in good standing of an associated regulatory body as appropriate
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings, and able to lift and carry items
Interruptions to respond to questions are common; incumbent can schedule dedicated and focused time for planning and concentration
The position holder may require a valid Manitoba driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle for regular travel to sites where public transport is not available

Ability to speak French
