Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Centre, including supervision of the Assistant Director, Program Supervisors, registered and non-registered staff and volunteers
  • Oversee delivery of the Centre’s programs to maintain or improve quality, in conjunction with the Assistant Director and Program Supervisors
  • Develop and implement an early childhood education program that is consistent with and meets the requirements of the City of Toronto Early Learning and Child Care Services and the Ontario Ministry of Education - Child Care and Early Years Program (“the Ministry”)
  • Manage operations of the Centre in accordance with Canada Wide Early Learning and Child-Care program and reporting requirements
  • Work with the Assistant Director to manage catering services, allergies and food restrictions in compliance with applicable standards
  • Foster a child-centred learning environment that protects and respects the rights of all children
  • Determine staffing needs and manage staff recruitment, hiring and onboarding
  • Oversee management, supervision and training of 20+ staff, including performance management
  • Plan, facilitate and provide professional development opportunities for Centre staff
  • Oversee financial management of all aspects of the Centre, including but not limited to budget preparation, tax filings and submission and completion of financial statements for audit processes with the support of the auditor, bookkeeper and Finance Committee of the Board and Board Treasurer
  • Monitor enrollment, manage the Centre wait list and fill vacancies
  • Participate in professional networking activities and attend workshops/training to remain up to date on programming and administrative requirements for child care organizations
  • Report to Board of Directors at regular meetings and provide meeting materials and supplemental information as required
  • Provide classroom/staff coverage on an as needed basis
  • Strategic leadership to develop, oversee and implement the Centre’s operational plan
  • Participate with the Board to develop a vision and strategic plan to guide the Centre and act as a professional advisor to the Board on all aspects of the organization’s activities
  • Oversee all aspects of the planning, implementation and evaluation of the organization’s programs and services
  • Oversee and implement staff salary grid with support of the Board
  • In consultation with the Board, ensure compliance with all legislative requirements established by applicable legislation including, but not limited to, Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, 2010, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act 2005, and City of Toronto Children’s Services policies
  • Create, implement and maintain all Centre policies, including, but not limited to, regular and timely communication with parents/guardians regarding their child(ren), human resource policies and procedures, and the other program policies
  • Maintain regulatory and legal compliance for licensing and insurance purposes
  • Work collaboratively with consultants from the Ministry, City of Toronto Children’s Services and support agencies, as required
  • Communicate and manage relationships with the Centre’s members, key stakeholders and external agencies, which includes the Toronto District School Board elementary school in which the Centre is located
  • Plan, coordinate and report to the Centre membership at an Annual General Meeting
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all concerns and inquiries related to the Centre and manage complaint processes in accordance with Centre policies and procedures
  • Promote the Centre to the surrounding community
  • Contribute to and maintain a work and program environment that prioritizes equity, diversity and inclusion and maintains compliance with accessibility, occupational health and safety and human rights legislation
  • Reflect the Centre’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and contribute to building a thriving team and Centre culture focused on collaboration, respect and engagement
