As Director of Traffic Engineering & Development, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and reliable highway system to enable economic development, protect public safety and enhance the quality of life of Saskatchewan residents.
Specifically, as the Director of Traffic Engineering & Development, you will be responsible for directing, managing and administering the road system as it pertains to traffic engineering, corridor planning & protection and right of way access management within the Central Region.
You will have experience and expertise in transportation engineering, particularly in rural driving environments. You will have a solid working knowledge of safety, geometric, and human factors best practices and industry standards, as well as hydraulics and general roadway design principles. You will have the ability to provide guidance and leadership to a diverse team and demonstrate skills relating to building relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate the goals and objectives of the Ministry of Highways.
Work areas include traffic impact assessments for development, fatal accident investigations, safety assessments for off-road safety features and in service safety reviews. Generating the needs of long-range planning and functional planning groups as it relates to safety and development pressure of the network. Additional key areas include safety improvement program management, drainage investigations, railway agreements, roadside development permits including signs, and custom sign designs.
Support function to design delivery by participating on steering committees and reviewing design reports related to twinning, passing lanes, interchange functions, etc.
Work involves guiding, mentoring and coaching a team of professional engineers and technicians. In addition, you will provide Traffic Engineering expertise and support to other Ministry personnel, and the general public. You will engage with other governments, stakeholders and consultants on a variety of issues along the highway network; and make sound recommendations of funding to meet key government goals and objectives relating to network safety improvements and collision reduction.
To qualify for the Director of Traffic Engineering & Development, position you must be eligible to register for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS). You must have several years of experience and general knowledge of project management, asset management, maintenance and preservation, operations, design, construction, contract administration and contract law.
