THE PROGRAM

Fort McMurray Edge Water House
Edgewater House is home to two adult males who have complex support needs.
Challenging behaviours, such as physical aggression (kicking, spitting, hair pulling) can occur on a daily basis and therefore, applicants with previous behavior intervention experience will be best suited to this position.
NOTE* CUPE union membership required
The complex needs rate as advertised (which represents the regular rate + $3.30/hr) reflects the requirement for additional supports/experience when supporting those clients. The regular rate ($22.43 - $25.63/hr) is paid for training/meetings/work with non-complex clients.

THE POSITION

We’re looking for a personable individual with compassion for individuals with disabilities and a desire to make a difference in their lives. The ideal candidate will work 12-hour days with the client(s) to provide support for activities of daily living and mentor/encourage independent successes.
As a Complex Behaviours Disability Service Worker, you will coach individuals with behavior, emotional or physical challenges, teach daily living and good citizenship skills, encourage independence, reinforce strengths that are already in place and offer support within the home and community.

Responsibilities:

  • Support/supervise clients’ complex behavioural, emotional and social needs/development (in the residence & during community activities)
  • Use de-escalation techniques to deal with challenging behaviours.
  • Assist/support individuals to develop and achieve personal goals.
  • Ensure individuals basic needs are met, i.e., hygiene, personal care, life skills and social/occupational skills.
  • Assist with household chores (meal prep, cleaning, etc.)
  • Drive individual in your own vehicle (and stay as a support/participate) to medical appointments, recreational activities, community events, etc.
  • Provide immediate support in crisis situations.
  • Assist in the design, implementation & evaluation of ISPs, program specific policies & procedures.
  • Connect the individual with their family, friends & community.
  • Administer medication, first aid if/when necessary.
  • Use computer program to write objective daily reports and document notes & observations regarding the client
