Description:

The Supervisor Marine Dispatch is responsible for leading the development and implementation of marine asset schedules and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Dispatch team at Seaspan Marine. This role is critical for optimizing marine asset productivity and ensuring sufficient and qualified marine personnel are in place for fleet operations. The primary focus is strategic forward planning and supervising the unionized crew dispatching team, addressing personnel issues, and driving operational efficiency through innovative thinking and process improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Marine Asset Scheduling
  • Develops detailed daily and weekly schedules for vessels in Seaspan’s fleet.
  • Works with the Engineering department to schedule routine maintenance, dockings, and quadrennial refits.
  • Coordinates with Seaspan regulatory and compliance for scheduling Class and Transport Canada inspections.
  • Interprets Collective Agreements and incorporates necessary requirements into schedules.
  • Demonstrates thorough understanding of customer contracts and obligations to create schedules that adhere to contractual obligations.
  • Supervises Vessel Dispatch Coordinators and acts as a coach and mentor for the Vessel Logistics Coordinators team.
  • Advises the leadership team on identifying and implementing innovative opportunities to increase operational efficiency.
  • Reviews marine personnel scheduling to ensure fleet crewing levels are fulfilled within a short turn-around time.
  • Handles escalated scheduling issues and makes decisions on personnel assignments for vessels.
  • Monitors absenteeism and disability levels, liaises with Wellness on injury, illness, and return-to-work issues.
  • Manages overtime, leave balances, vacation approvals, and leave of absence requests, implementing corrective measures as needed.
  • Addresses disputes between Crew Dispatchers and seagoing personnel, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Prepares and tracks job vacancies, ensuring compliance with seniority, qualifications, and recruitment guidelines.
  • Prepares various types of employee-related documentation, including discipline, promotions, and employment.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
