We are seeking a Distribution Engineer to join our Distribution Engineering Department. Under the general direction of the Electrical
Distribution Design Engineer, the Distribution Engineer shall provide technical direction to technical support staff and assume
professional responsibility for the design and preparation of work orders for additions and modifications to the electrical distribution
and distribution supply systems. The Distribution Engineer will liaise with internal departments, ensuring what is constructed
complies with Manitoba Hydro standards and meets the needs of customers in a safe and cost-effective manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university with a minimum of six years of related
experience and a broad knowledge of electrical distribution systems.
OR
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering in a related discipline with an acceptable exposure to Electrical Transmission or
Distribution System Design and with a minimum of six years of related experience will be considered.
- Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a
Responsibilities:
- Assume professional responsibility for the design of work orders for additions and modifications to the electrical distribution
and distribution supply systems, ensuring safety, compliance with Manitoba Hydro’s 66kV and Below Standards, and cost
efficiency are met.
- Provide technical direction to technical support staff, including Design Technical Assistants, Engineers in Training (EIT’s),
Engineering Interns, and summer students.
- Liaise with Energy Services & Sales, Distribution Planning, Distribution Construction, and Distribution Operations &
Maintenance to meet customers’ needs in terms of electrical capacity, location of plant, and schedule.
- Perform field surveys as required to review completed work orders to ensure the as-builts received are accurate and what was
constructed complies with Manitoba Hydro 66kV and Below Standards.
- Ensure work orders to be issued for construction fully implement the recommendations contained in planning reports and
memos.
- Prepare and collaborate with Distribution Planning to evaluate alternatives for complex electrical distribution additions and
modifications.
- Recommend, facilitate, and monitor the development and operation of new and existing electrical distribution design software
applications used by the department.
- Instruct at Manitoba Hydro Training and Development Programs as required.
- Perform special assignments, studies, and research associated with Distribution Design. Prepare formal reports for
documentation and approval.
