By joining The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet/District 5/ as a District Facilities Technician, you’ll have the opportunity to provide maintenance and repair of highway buildings and related equipment throughout district 5. The employee could report to anyone of our 8 counties to obtain their job orders for the day (Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby, Trimble, Henry, spencer, Bullitt or Franklin).

Holders of the District Facilities Technician position will complete tasks such as:

  • Review maintenance or repairs needs.
  • Perform carpentry work.
  • Perform general building maintenance.
  • Clean HVAC equipment to ensure proper functionality.

Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:

  • Repair for sewage treatment facilities.
  • Keep record of equipment servicing and maintenance schedules.
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities and checking the work of contract personnel.
  • Determine the scope of a project and expertise required for completion.

Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:

  • Determine the scope of a project and expertise required for completion.
  • Vocational or technical school training in one of the related fields; building maintenance, mechanical maintenance, skilled trades.
  • Building maintenance experience.
  • Mechanical maintenance experience.

Incumbents in this job title will have physically demanding requirements. Incumbents in this job title are required to travel throughout an assigned district. This position requires standing, stooping, bending, and lifting 50 pounds.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: NONE

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have four years of building maintenance, skilled trades or mechanical maintenance experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Vocational or technical school training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
