Description:

LOCATION: NATIONWIDE WORKING/SITE BASED - LOCATION IS PRIMARILY WORTHING BASED FOR FIRST 12 MONTHS THEN NATIONWIDE.

Hemiko are seeking a proficient District Heating Welder to join our team. This role involves executing critical welding tasks for the installation, maintenance, and repair of district heating systems in compliance with BS EN 13941, 14419, 489, 9606, and BS EN ISO 3834 standards.
We require a skilled Class 1 welder with expertise in TIG or MIG welding techniques and manufacturer certification for the installation of DH buried mains pipework. Experience working within deep excavations and familiarity with activities associated with excavation techniques are essential. As a DH Welder, you will be part of our Internal Delivery team, responsible for installing District Heating Networks nationwide.
You will report directly to the Project Manager, Site Management, and DH Delivery Manager. As a DH Welder, your role will involve completing DH installation works in compliance with Hemiko company standards, policies, health and safety procedures, contracted scope of work, and program requirements. The successful candidate will collaborate with Hemiko teams and external contractors to ensure productive installations.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the heating industry, specifically in the installation of buried District Heating pipework. You should be proficient in identifying non-conforming DH installations and experienced in locating and exposing faults in buried networks that do not meet project specifications.

  • The design, installation, operating, and funding of a district heating system to serve 3,500 homes in Clapham as part of a major regeneration project.
  • The design, installation, and operation of a new city centre wide low carbon district heating system for the City of Cardiff.
  • The design, installation, and operation of a ground source heat pump system to provide heating and cooling to a new development of 300 homes a gym and office building in South London.
  • The design and installation of a heat network in a rural community in Cambridgeshire to replace oil boilers in 300 homes with centralised low carbon heat generation.
  • Developing detailed long-term decarbonisation plans for existing large scale district heating networks to allow them to transition from gas fired CHP led generation to low carbon generation.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Class 1 TIG or MIG welding certification in accordance with BS EN 9609-Part 1
  • NVQ or equivalent qualification.
  • Energy and Utilities sector registration
  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme registration
  • Completion of a formal welding training program or apprenticeship.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in welding, with a focus on district heating or similar infrastructure projects.

  • Welding Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in welding techniques with hands-on experience in TIG or MIG welding, preferably in district heating or related fields.
  • Certifications: Possession of relevant welding certifications, including Class 1 butt welding certification, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Technical Competence: Ability to interpret and work from designs, schematics, and technical drawings to undertaking re-design where appropriate with precision and accuracy.
  • Safety Awareness: Strong commitment to workplace safety with comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and best practices.
  • Detail Orientation: Keen attention to detail and ability to execute precise and accurate welding workmanship.
  • Physical Aptitude: Capable of performing physically demanding tasks and working effectively in diverse environmental conditions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with team members and clear conveyance of information.
  • Team Collaboration: Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, fostering cooperation and synergy towards achieving project goals.
  • Full UK Driving licence.

Responsibilities:

  • Set an example of high-quality workmanship and strong Health & Safety practices, while promoting the reporting of hazards and near misses.
  • Ensure all works are carried out in a safe manner complying with the relevant H&S legislation and regulations.
  • Ensure that work is carried out effectively according to the requirements of the Hemiko construction delivery teams and clients. Deliver excellent customer service while adhering to company standards and meeting productivity expectations.

  • Assist in producing technical documentation if required.
  • Adhering to safety procedures, minimising risk, ensuring the use of personal protective equipment, and undertaking point of work risk assessments.
  • Recording near misses, observations, incidents via procore and communicating this with the main contractors and Hemiko management
  • Welding Operations: Conduct various welding operations including fusion welding, gas tungsten arc welding (TIG), and gas metal arc welding (MIG) as necessary for district heating system projects.
  • Pipe Fabrication: Fabricate and install pipes, fittings, and associated components in adherence to provided designs, schematics, and project specifications.
  • Quality Assurance: Industry M&E knowledge. Ensure the quality and durability of welds through meticulous visual inspections, conforming to relevant BS EN standards, codes, and safety protocols. Experienced in scoping jobs and materials take offs.
  • Safety Compliance: Uphold strict adherence to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a secure work environment. Promptly identify and report any safety hazards or concerns.
  • Appreciation and understanding of Health & Safety legislation, awareness of all relevant statutory, regulatory policies and guidelines, particularly SHEQ.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Regularly inspect, clean, and perform minor repairs on welding equipment to sustain optimal functionality and safety standards.
  • Collaborative Work: Collaborate effectively with colleagues, including engineers, supervisors, and external contractors, to streamline workflow and achieve project milestones efficiently.
  • Documentation: Good literacy skills. Ability to maintain accurate records of work activities, including welding procedures, inspection reports, and material usage, ensuring compliance with project documentation requirements.
