JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking for a talented, passionate Diversional Therapist.
The role empowers you to create a recreational programme for seniors living in a care supportive environment. You will be leading a culture of purposeful engagement which promotes dignity and independence through the therapeutic recreation process. Our ideal candidate is passionate, flexible, self-motivated, innovative, energetic & open-minded who has a sound understanding of holistic person centred approach and high level of human awareness (empathy & compassion). You can run individual and group recreational activities, having good communications skills and strong willingness to learn
This is a permanent, full-time role of at least 32 hours per week
Work will be scheduled from Friday to Tuesday during morning shifts.
Located in Te Awa, Hawkes Bay

Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

  • Create a recreational programme for seniors living in a care supportive environment.
  • Provide active support to residents to participate and engage in the social life of the Care Centre and the wider village by understanding the residents’ interests and offering meaningful activities.
  • Lead a culture of purposeful engagement which promotes dignity and independence through the therapeutic recreation process.
  • Plan and implement a program of activities that empower residents to make choices, maintain control of their daily activities & enhance their wellbeing, ensuring all plans are aligned to Summerset policies.
  • Effectively lead and participate in activities as needed, including involvement in residents’ functions, driving residents on trips and assisting in the transportation of residents to special appointments.
  • Applying the APIED process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, documentation) for individual or group recreational programmes
  • Monitor, analyse and assess residents’ abilities and engagement, reporting progress against their plans as per policy guidelines.
  • Maintain monthly expenditure records for approval.

QUALIFICATIONS:

You:

  • A minimum qualification of National Certificate in Diversional Therapy (Level 4) or equivalent. At least 3 years of relevant work experience may also be acceptable.
  • Strong organisational skills, ability to multi-task and a positive “can-do” attitude
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, empathy and a genuine interest in working with older people
  • Current first aid certificate or willingness to undertake a two-day course
  • Full & clean Drivers license & ability to drive a Mobility Van.
  • Computer literacy with using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
