Pay Range: $67,693.48 – $74,902.88/yr

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

Responsibilities:

Researches and examines law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, and legal codes to review legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, EEOC charges, wills, agency complaints, contracts, buy-sell agreements, closing papers, deeds, and trust instruments. Reviews all subpoenas received within the Division; delivers or directs delivery of subpoenas to witnesses and parties to action; obtains appropriate related information for further review or discussion at the Divisional and Territorial level. Communicates receipt of subpoena to the Field staff, providing instructions on how to respond. Communicates receipt of subpoenas to Territorial Legal Department and receives instructions on sending requested documents. If necessary, retain legal counsel to assist in defending a subpoena’s requests.
Reviews all lawsuits received within the Division, coordinates appropriately, monitors and gathers facts along with documentation, etc.; prepares recommendations for the Divisional Finance Board and Board of Trustees. Assigns legal counsel and prepares legal requisition for TSAMM and processes legal invoices. Tracks all legal cases and required responses along with the associated deadlines in order to ensure all involved parties and documents are ready as scheduled and required for compliance.
Participates in mediations on behalf of The Salvation Army when assigned and ensures that decisions and information shared is within assigned authority. Assists Divisional and Territorial staff which will include all aspects of employment work including fielding calls from and assisting with settlement agreements. Assists Divisional and Territorial staff which includes all aspects of employment matters, including fielding calls from TSA retained attorneys. Assists with settlement agreements as part of a mediated settlement.
Conducts basic legal research from agency websites and other sources. Participates in all areas of employment litigation as directed by outside counsel. Drafts initial legal letters or documents for the Florida Division. Participates in all areas of mediation activities as necessary or directed. Participates in investigations for all DHQ and field level grievances and complaints. Responsible for completing investigation reports for DHQ and field level grievances and complaints. Review and interpret Salvation Army policy for interpretation and application. Assists the Divisional HR Director in fielding Employee Relations issues, questions, and complaints. Process all legal employment invoices from attorneys.
