Description:

We are one of the largest and oldest universities in Europe and one of the most important employers in our region.
Our broad range of subjects, the dynamic development of our main research areas and our central location in Cologne
make us attractive for students and researchers from around the world. We offer a wide range of career opportunities in
science, technology, and administration.
The Cabreiro Lab (www.cabreirolab.org) aims at understand-
ing how microbes alter specific metabolic and signalling
pathways in host cells to maintain systemic homeostasis
and suppress aging. Our research interests span several
fields including organismal and cell biology, metabolism
microbiology, pharmacology and systems biology. We seek
a highly motivated PhD student (f/m/x), who will investigate
microbiome-related effects on host immunity, metabolism,
and ageing.

Responsibilities:

» Use the power of the mouse model (including germ-
free) to causally link the role of microbes to host physi-
ology
» Use molecular biology, biochemistry and imaging tech-
niques
» Perform metabolic, proteomic, and transcriptomic stud-
ies of host and/or microbiome samples
» Metabolic phenotyping of mouse models with a special
focus on immunity and metabolism
» accurately record and analyse and present experimental
data
» Carry out your own research project under the direct
supervision of the PI
