The at the Faculty of Sciences of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) focuses its research on investigating the electronic excited states of photofunctional molecules and materials across various length- and time-scales using quantum chemical and data-driven methods. We are looking for a PhD candidate in the field of Computational Photochemistry. The research will emphasize computational and data-driven strategies to explore light-driven processes and reactions in photofunctional molecules and materials. The PhD position will be embedded within the and the . Our research activities encompass quantum chemistry, molecular dynamics simulations, chemoinformatics, and machine learning.

Your Tasks
- Utilizing computational and data-driven approaches such as quantum chemistry calculations, molecular modeling, programming, and data science (e.g., chemoinformatics and machine learning)
- Performing quantum chemical simulations and/or implementing data-driven strategies to explore light-induced reactions and processes in molecules and materials
- Independently spearheading research projects aimed at comprehending the mechanisms underlying light-induced chemical processes and reactions
Your Profile
- Master’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field (or will obtain it before starting the position)
- Research background in computational chemistry or data science, or a strong interest in acquiring the required knowledge
- Interest in scientific objectives, theoretical chemistry, photochemistry, or cheminformatics and enjoy interdisciplinary work is desirable
- Ideally, a desire to pursue a PhD in the field of computational photochemistry
- Good knowledge of English
- Independent approach, initiative, and ability to work as part of a team
- Strong communication skills
- Basic knowledge of Python or a similar programming language
