MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Two years of administrative staff or professional work.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from a college or university for the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
1. Experience with developing content that is Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) compliant.
2. Experience with developing online courses to meet student accessibility needs.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must consent to State and FBI (CJIS) background check as a routine procedure for all employees.

Responsibilities:

This position supports Maryland State Department of Education in the remediation of digital content for all users. This position will serve to ensure that all digital content developed or procured by MSDE meets federal, state standards and regulations for accessibility. This position is responsible for providing technical assistance to MSDE staff members across all divisions in relation to document accessibility. In addition, this individual is responsible for determining the accessibility of vendor delivered content.

  • Evaluate, test and remediate MSDE digital tools for accessibility compliance. To include Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite products.
  • Format and remediate PDF, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents to ensure accessibility compliance.
  • Provided technical assistance on remediation actions and develop remediation plans.
  • Consult during the design phase to ensure the digital content is born accessible and provide feedback for improvement.
  • Develop, modify, and maintain accessible document and presentation styles and templates.
  • Review prerecorded content to ensure the accuracy of the captions.
  • Update caption files on prerecorded content to ensure accuracy.
  • Develop descriptive text transcripts to support prerecorded content.
  • Consult prior to recording to ensure that time-based media accessibility practices are followed.
  • Test online student and professional development vendor resources, including courses and modules, for accessibility compliance, utilizing assistive technologies.
  • Create online course evaluation reports.
  • Other duties as assigned
