Description:
DEPARTMENT OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES AND MICROBIOLOGY (DIREKTOR: PROF. DR. MED. JAN RUPP)
The Department of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology at the University of Lübeck is seeking an exceptional Ph.D. student to join us in the investigation of the functional analysis of nonsynonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms in chlamydial tissue tropism-related genes. C. pneumoniae causes acute infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract and is associated with the pathogenesis of chronic lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Furthermore, it can disseminate from the lung to the vasculature by peripheral blood monocytes and can also be isolated from atherosclerotic plaques in patients. In this project funded by German Research Foundation (DFG), we will elucidate functional effects of genes related to the observed non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms (nsSNPs) with respect to C. pneumoniae tissue tropism.
We will use a multidisciplinary approach integrating cell biology, molecular biology, and metabolic biochemistry to investigate how SNPs in C. pneumoniae affect infection of the respiratory tract and subsequent dissemination to the cardiovascular system.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successfully completed university degree (Master or similar) in the field of life sciences
- Research experience in the field of molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry and/or immunology - working experience of chlamydiae and knowledge of genetic modification of bacteria is a plus
- Independent planning and execution of proposed projects
- Spontaneity and a high level of comprehension for working on new tasks at short notice in an interdisciplinary research environment
- Having an integrative personality with an enthusiasm for active participation in research and leadership skills to execute an ambitious research program in the innovative field of infectious diseases
We look forward to receiving your application by 08.08.2024 quoting the vacancy number 24741.
