Description:

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Donor Experience Consultant oversees all donor relations and stewardship functions for WOSU Public Media and establishes and ensures development and implementation of a comprehensive donor recognition plan with the goal of driving donor satisfaction and continued giving.
The Consultant reports to the Chief Advancement Officer and will help engage a dynamic development team for WOSU. The position provides oversight of engagement, helping to set immediate and long-range strategies for engaging and building relationships with the members, underwriters and major/planned gift donors. There is a strong emphasis on collaboration with university and college partners on individualized stewardship plans that deepen relationships with major and principal gift donors. Responsibilities also include working closely with the office’s finance leader and other senior leadership to ensure fiscal stewardship of all unit development funds. As part of WOSU’s development leadership team, the Consultant contributes to setting goals, defining priorities and carrying out short- and long-term plans and special projects that focus on advancing public media in Central Ohio.
The ideal candidate for this role will be a strategic and critical thinker and demonstrate high proficiency and comfort level in the following areas: data and analytics, writing, creative thinking, customer service and ability to work with a diverse population. They will have experience building collaborative relationships and strong communication skills. The role is best suited for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced team setting and of course is passionate about public media. This position is located on the Columbus, Ohio campus in the WOSU headquarters. Occasional evening/weekend work is required. A flexible schedule, including remote work, will be mutually agreed upon with the Chief Advancement Officer.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • 4 years of experience in stewardship, donor relations, or related field.

Responsibilities:

40% Donor engagement/stewardship strategy and planning
Works with central advancement and unit leadership to direct strategy and create a comprehensive stewardship plan for all donors tiered to impact level. Participates in all aspects of WOSU’s principal and major gift stewardship planning and strategy. Manages a primary and secondary portfolio of donors for stewardship purposes. Tracks and coordinates development officer stewardship visits at the $100,000 level and above. Actively visits and/or corresponds with donors for stewardship purposes where primary plan management dictates. Ensures implementation of stewardship projects when delegated or in partnership with communications and development staff.
Establishes and monitors goals; provides performance feedback and coaching; supports professional development; completes annual performance management procedures; manages performance issues. Responsible for using independent, consistent and fair judgement in exercising authority, develops procedures, assigns and prioritizes work, and ensures that the resources needed to accomplish work are provided.
35% Donor Recognition and Acknowledgment
Oversees all donor acknowledgement, engagement, recognition, and reporting initiatives, including overseeing all impact and endowment reporting, recognition events, and creation of custom impact pieces for donors. Ensures that all of the programming for stewardship and donor relations is executed in a creative and strategic way. Works collaboratively with development officers in creating individualized stewardship plans and works in partnership with advancement colleagues to implement communication around transformational gift recognition. Creates opportunities for donors to experience and monitor the impact of their philanthropy and creates of custom impact pieces for donors. Ensures that all of the programming for stewardship and donor relations is executed in a creative and strategic way. Supervises WOSU’s gift acknowledgement processes and serves as the main contact with central Advancement as it pertains to capital projects and naming initiatives.
20% Fund Management and Supervision
Serves as the development leadership team member charged with the management and supervision of all endowment and current use funds in WOSU. Partners with central Advancement and works closely with the office’s lead finance officer and unit leadership to steward development funds at the leadership level as well as the department level and review funds on a regular basis. Oversees financial stewardship of all major gifts to WOSU including gift agreement and endowment administration, annual fund audits, financial reporting, pledge reporting/tracking, and analysis of data to create, develop and implement fund management strategy.
