Description:

BWXT Medical Ltd. is a trusted source for the development and manufacture of nuclear medicine for biotechnology, life sciences, pharmaceutical companies and academia partners. Headquartered in Kanata, Ontario, BWXT Medical Ltd. employs over 300 highly-skilled people in Kanata and Vancouver, British Columbia.
We are currently recruiting for a Draftsperson - 12-month term for our production facility in Kanata, Ontario.
Location: On-site; 447 March Road, Kanata, ON.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Produces accurate and complete drawings of assigned projects. Responsible for the technical quality and accuracy of own work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Normally Technologist Diploma (3 years) in mechanical, electrical or other appropriate technology. Demonstrated industry experience is a strong asset. Must be accomplished in the use of a computer aided design and drafting system.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have demonstrated ability to understand and apply engineering instructions and to work from technical documents analyzing, resolving and interpreting simple design problems.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of design principles, standards, techniques and an understanding of administrative practices.
  • Must have a general knowledge of relevant company products, processes and procedures.
  • Must communicate effectively orally and in writing with other design staff and peers in other departments.
  • Normal Drawing Office conditions.
  • May be required to work some overtime in peak periods.
  • May be required to work in Active area (i.e. qualify as an Nuclear Energy Worker) for short periods.

Responsibilities:

Under direction of a more senior designer, or project engineer:

  • Responsible for ensuring the proper application of engineering design and drawing practices to achieve project objectives.
  • Monitors own progress and reports on emerging delays and problems.
  • Prepares final design layout drawings and manufacturing documentation.
  • Ensures that designs and drawings are accurate and dimensionally correct. Arranges for the checking of designs and drawings and required approvals. Responsible for the technical quality and accuracy of own work.
  • Monitors own work for adherence to approved drafting standards, corporate policies and procedures. Evaluates and suggests improvements of drafting methods and design.
  • Prepares design/drafting estimates and participates in project planning activities and progress meetings as required. Monitors project drafting hours with respect to overall objectives.
  • Maintains liaison with engineering, purchasing, production and other groups to ensure that designs meet necessary requirements for manufacturing, shipping, installation and maintenance.
  • Performs other related duties appropriate to this level.
