Description:

JOB SUMMARY To provide a safe, effective delivery, collection and fitting service relating to the provision of community equipment. To work as part of a small team providing high quality, customer focussed and effective delivery of equipment to service users in Barnsley. To support the delivery of services in accordance with SWYPFT NHS equal opportunities policy and anti-discriminatory practice. KEY RESULT AREAS: The postholder will: 1.
Deal directly with vulnerable service users, carers and referring professionals in a sensitive and considerate manner. Lifting, handling and safe fitting of equipment 2. Please note - the collection and delivery of equipment involves the daily moving and handling of heavy items. Delivery to service user homes is not always via easy access, that may include taking items upstairs and of safely fitting equipment, often within confined/restrictive spaces.
3. Ensure up to date technical knowledge of the assembly, safe usage and the fitting of community equipment items through both relevant training, and of the recommended manufacturers guidelines. To provide instruction and guidance, on the correct and safe use of newly installed equipment, to both service users and their carers where necessary. 4.
The safe setting up and configuration of Dynamic Pressure Mattress systems, installed within the community, to parameters which meet the requirement of both the patient and of the prescribing clinician. 5. To ensure that all equipment is fitted in a safe manner, and meets the purpose to which it was prescribed, within the home environment. To remove equipment where in the opinion of the post holder, patient safety could be compromised by differing circumstances regarding its location within the home environment.
6. Ensure that the transportation and handling of all community equipment items is undertaken in accordance with SYNHSPFT infection control policies and guidance, including the daily decontamination of the delivery vehicles interior. 7. Ensure a safe working environment for all colleagues, service users and visitors, and to comply at all times with relevant health and safety legislation, SWYNHSPFT policies and guidance.
Vehicle use and maintenance 8. Maintain the exterior and interior of the vehicles to ensure a clean condition, in particular with reference to infection control standards. 9. Ensure a high standard of driving skills and demonstrate courtesy to other road users.
10. Be aware and take account of all relevant legislation in respect of vehicle safety regulations and the operation of associated equipment, e.g. tail lifts. 11.
Undertake daily and weekly maintenance checks on vehicles, e.g. oil level, washer fluid, tyre pressures etc. 12. Ensure any defects or damage found on the vehicles is reported to the CES Operational Manager.
13. Ensure all loads are kept secure at all times to prevent damage to either the vehicles or equipment. 14. Ensure that vehicles are kept secure at all times in order to minimise the risk of theft or damage.
Administrative duties 15. Ensure deliveries and collections of equipment is documented (including recording of relevant equipment parameters) and recorded as required and that these records are safely returned to main office. 16. Maintain vehicle use records, i.e.
driver, date, time and mileage travelled. 17. To liaise with Store staff regarding the daily scheduling for equipment deliveries and collections. 18.
Maintain accurate use of Driver PDA/Bar code scanners and GPRS multi-drop receipting devices. Other duties 19. Undertake training relevant to the successful fulfilment of the role, and in accordance with SWYNHSPFT organisational and personal development needs. 20.
Assist with the induction and in-house training of new and existing staff. 21. Lead when accompanied by General Assistants, Temporary or Agency staff with regards to the safe fitting of equipment, health & safety, conduct and service. 22.
The post holder will be required to undertake any other duties according to the needs of the service. The job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of activities but rather an outline of the main areas of responsibility. Any reasonable changes will be discussed and agreed with the post holder before any variations to the job description are made. Other duties may include working in the Decontamination unit cleaning equipment & warehouse duties including fork truck (after training) etc.
General 23. Demonstrate a positive commitment to SWYPFT equal opportunities policy and guidelines. 24. Ensure confidentiality on all matters relating to service users, and information obtained during the course of employment.
25. Responsible for working in accordance with all policies and procedures for the Community Equipment Service and contributing to the development of good working practice. 1.1Care/service/function provision: The postholder as a representative of the NHS/BICES is expected to comply in an empathic, supportive and caring way, in the consideration of difficult circumstances, and to undertake their job with dignity, and of a high standard to support patient requirement. 1.2 Working as part of a Team: The postholder is required to assemble and fit community support equipment within a patient home environment in a safe way, with the minimum of supervision.
The postholder will be required to work as part of the general BICES team, often undertaking duties that involve teamwork and supporting the directives of the BICES service. 1.3 Managing Self: The postholder will be required to assemble and fit community support equipment within a patient home environment in a safe way, with the minimum of supervision. Differing environmental factors have to be taken into consideration, as often equipment might be unsuitable of unsafe. It is at the discretion of the postholder to ascertain if the equipment is suitable for the location (as referred by the Clinician) and is fitted in a safe and correct manner.
If equipment is deemed unsuitable and unsafe, the postholder is expected to remove the equipment. Equipment is often assembled within required parameters and settings (i.e. height, weight, pressure etc.), and it is the discretion of the postholder if this is undertaken correctly and within safe parameters of the specified requirement. The postholder has the freedom to act should something not be considered safe to install.
Deadlines and prior arrangements have to be organized (often to meet within designated timescales of referring clinicians/carers at appropriate properties). No two jobs are the same and this must also be considered by the postholder when planning their working day, which has often to be changed (and other patients/clinicians notified throughout the day) to meet this new requirement. 1.4 Management Supervision and Support: The post holder has no managerial supervision responsibility but is expected to be involved in the training of potential new staff within the role. The postholder is expected to undertake and compliance of the SWYT Personal Development Review process.
