Description:
At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision in the new Swindon Plan is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.
The Public Health Team at Swindon Borough Council is seeking to recruit a Public Health Commissioning Support & Development Officer to work across the substance use disorder and public mental health portfolios to support our key functions: reducing drug and alcohol related harms and improving the mental health and wellbeing of Swindon’s population.
Our vision is to create healthy, strong and resilient communities. Our highly successful public health team works to improve and protect the health of Swindon residents, tackle health inequalities and protect the most vulnerable.
Responsibilities:
As a commissioning support and development officer, you will have responsibility for providing commissioning support to the substance use disorder and public mental health strategic officers to maintain and develop working relationships with partners and colleagues, internal and external, both at operational and strategic levels. This role is to support the commissioning of services that are compliant with internal and external regulations by ensuring that all necessary reporting, analysis, payment, partnership work, documentation and user engagement initiatives are kept updated and relevant.
You will work with a range of partners to develop new areas of business across the substance use disorder and mental health public health portfolios. The role provides dedicated commissioning support for a number of workstreams across these portfolios, such as the implementation, progress and monitoring of the newly published substance use disorder strategy 2024-2029 and public mental health strategic plan. While the post-holder will initially focus on supporting the substance use disorder and public mental health agendas, they may also be asked to support other commissioning depending on organisational priorities.
At present, we offer hybrid working with a requirement to be able to travel to Swindon Borough Council Offices one day a week and across the Borough as required. However, this may be subject to change in line with corporate policy and the needs of the service.
You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
Interviews for this role, will be held in person.
