JOB DESCRIPTION
Applicants should have a proven interest in research (which may include pedagogical research) shown through their intercalated BSc(Hons)/BScMedSci, or equivalent and demonstrate an intention to pursue an academic career in future. It is also possible to pursue a medical education track as part of this scheme. Our aim is support, nurture and retain the best trainees in the North of Scotland and position them to apply for a SCREDS Clinical Lectureship and undertake a higher degree, ideally, through an externally funded PhD Fellowship.
Over a two year programme, successful trainees will be provided with an academic mentor, an honorary university title (Honorary Clinical Fellow) and access to academic support including University IT and Library facilities. Appointees will have access to a small budget for research/publications and travel to conferences, help with identifying research opportunities and applying for Fellowships. There is no protected academic time, but the support provided is intended to make it possible to set and pursue research goals alongside training requirements. You will therefore be an excellent trainee capable of managing your time to meet clinical training goals primarily whilst also driving forward your research interests.
Selection will be by application through University of Aberdeen application system (please refer to the above job reference number) and an interview held in late-October 2024. Applicants should also provide a personal statement (approximately one side of A4) describing proven academic excellence and future research plans along with their application.
Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Dr Jenna Gregory (jenna.gregory@abdn.ac.uk) or Dr Mairead Black (Mairead.black@abdn.ac.uk), Leads for the ACAT Programme.
The closing date is2 October 2024.
