Working Hours
35 hours per week, 9:30am to 5:30pm but additional hours may be required (the nature of the role will involve attending evening events and will require some overnights stays). The Early Careers Recruitment team forms part of the overarching People function of the Hogan Lovells global business, working alongside HR Advisory, People Development and Learning & Development. Early Careers Recruitment sits within the Legal Resourcing function and works closely with the Legal and Business Services Recruitment and Early Careers Development teams. The team is responsible for the firm’s strategic aim of attracting and recruiting the best talent for our Trainee Solicitor and Solicitor Apprentice roles.
Role Overview
Trainee Solicitor and Solicitor Apprentice Recruitment at Hogan Lovells
Each year the firm seeks to recruit 47 graduates to join the firm’s trainee solicitor recruitment programme in London and Birmingham. We also recruit 2 Solicitor Apprentices in London each year. The role manages all administration activities involved in both the marketing & attraction and recruitment of trainee solicitors and solicitor apprentices. You will work with key internal stakeholders across the firm including Partners, Counsel and Senior Associates who support early careers recruitment activities.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
Marketing & Attraction
- Help source representatives to staff events and represent the firm, answer first line queries from attendees and send weekly post event thank you emails (every week)
- Book office-based and campus events, including catering, audio-visual and virtual delivery requirements
- Create event/open day sign-up links on our applicant tracking system and track attendees
- Send out mail shots to students to advertise events and vacancies
- Responsible for the set up of events, including organising name tent cards, name badges, goodie bags, schedules and other materials
- Process invoices and student travel and accommodation expenses
- Update promotional materials such as job adverts, events descriptions, media profiles, FAQ guide and events handbooks
- Organise sponsorship meetings with our target universities law and non-law societies and update the sponsorship spreadsheet with all the details
- Draft invitations for future joiner events and track responses
Recruitment & Selection
- Screen applications for all programmes
- Send the Watson Glaser Test to all candidates, providing extra time if necessary
- Schedule assessment days for vacation schemes, training contracts and the campus ambassador programme
- Add candidate and assessor information into TopScore (virtual assessment day platform) and organise assessor information packs
- Assist with the smooth running of assessment days, open days, vacation schemes and other programmes
- Assist with the organisation of the vacation scheme socials, trainee buddies, and end of scheme interviews
- Update tracker spreadsheets with hires from our assessment days and vacation schemes
- Send feedback reports to candidates following assessment centres
- Respond to candidate emails in the Early Careers Recruitment inbox
- Ensure any recruitment paperwork is transferred into future trainee/ solicitor apprentice files
External Relationship Management
- Developing and maintaining effective relationships with all external providers and consultants, including our target universities, Aspiring Solicitors, AllAboutLaw, Legal Cheek, Rare Recruitment and our marketing agency, SB.inc.
All members of the firm participate in our Responsible Business programme requiring 25 hours annually to be spent supporting the firm’s RB projects.

- Ability to maintain professional demeanour in all situations, demonstrate the ability to work independently with limited guidance
- A high attention to detail
- Demonstrate the ability to maintain strict confidentiality of the firm’s internal and personnel affairs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Sound analytical and numerical skills
- Excellent all round IT skills, in particular Word and Excel (highly proficient with spread sheets)
