Early Childhood Educator - EARLY LEARNING AND CHILD CARE CENTRE
PLASP Child Care Services is a charitable organization operating on a not-for-profit basis, providing high quality early learning and child care, for children up to 12 years of age. PLASP operates in more than 240 schools providing before school, lunch, and after school programs and 30 full-day early learning and child care centres and six EarlyON locations for children from 0 – 6 years.
The curriculum for PLASP Centres is based on the HighScope® approach, where children develop important skills including language, pre-math and pre-reading skills. The daily routine is designed to allow time for the children to explore and learn independently and for the adults to plan more structured teaching time. All programing incorporate the Ministry of Education pedagogy, How Does Learning Happen? The PLASP Centres also follow other quality initiatives like Raising the Bar, AQI, and PQA.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in establishing and maintaining a safe, warm, and caring environment in which a high quality Child Care Program can operate
  • Working cooperatively with the Program Director and room staff to plan, develop and implement a high scope program that provides leadership and guidance activities for young children which will promote their physical, social, emotional and intellectual well-being.
  • An ability to supervise other staff, including students on placement and volunteers and provide direction and leadership to other program staff, students and volunteers
  • Maintaining order and discipline in the program by positive and supportive means following the High Scope six steps of conflict resolution and in accordance with the PLASP Behaviour Management Policy
  • Ensuring the health and safety of the children and centre safety is maintained at all times.
  • A positive and sensitive attitude towards children, their parents and other staff members
  • Good communication and leadership skills
  • Excellent organizational abilities
