YMCA of Northern Alberta is seeking an enthusiastic Early Childhood Educator to provide high-quality care and service to families in our YMCA Child Care programs. As an Educator funded by Family Supports for Children with Disabilities (FSCD), you will have the opportunity to mentor, role model and implement activities that help with the growth and development of the children in our programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Consistently represent YMCA’s values and mission, comply with all YMCA policies, procedures and Provincial Licensing regulations.
  • Work and communicate with a team to implement Child Care curriculum which may include YMCA Playing to Learn, FLIGHT and YMCA A Place to Connect.
  • Guide and redirect children in situations when conflicts arise using a variety of positive child guidance techniques.
  • Ensure children are accounted for at all times.
  • Treat all families respectfully, bearing in mind their values, culture and background.
  • Build relationships with families and communicate, verbally and in writing on a daily basis.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Health and Safety and Child Protection Policies and Procedures.
  • Attend all required professional development and training opportunities.
  • Consistently provide a safe and clean environment following all cleaning procedures.
  • Provide opportunities for children to practice and enhance their skills.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide immediate support and intervention.
  • Complete required administrative tasks.
  • Work with the team develop and implement individualized support plans.
  • Coordinate and oversee activities tailored to the abilities and needs of the child.
  • Ensure the inclusion of children with unique needs in all YMCA programs and activities.
  • Provide guidance and support to families of children with unique needs.
  • Adapt activities to meet the diverse needs of children with unique needs.
  • Assist with diapering, feeding, lifting children from wheelchair, and assisting in toileting, if applicable to the child requiring support. as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
