Description:
YMCA of Northern Alberta is looking for someone who enjoys teaching and developing others to fill the position of Families Supporting Children with Disabilities (FSCD) Early Childcare Educator to provide high quality care and service to families in YMCA Childcare programs by implementing and teaching programs. This role will play an integral part of a family’s journey of raising their children by providing one-on-one or shared support for children who have additional needs. The FSCD Support position will work within the terms of an FSCD contract by creating goals in partnership with the child’s family and other support professionals. QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- Experience working with children
- Candidates seeking to attain their level or in possession of their Level 1 certification will also be considered
- Standard or Child Care First Aid & CPR – C
- Able to obtain a Police Information Check with Vulnerable sector check
- Additional Training in working with children with additional needs and conditions
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training and similar training would be an asset
Responsibilities:
- Consistently represent YMCA’s values and mission

- Assist with transportation to and from the classroom
- Assist child with problem solving and communication
- Helping child with self regulation skill development; assisting child to de-escalate
- Assist child with peer relationships
- Assist child learn to communicate with peers and teachers
- Promote healthy child development through positive interactions
- Encourage and support child to take part in activities
- Work with the family and other supporting professionals to set goals in development
- Complete required documentation and administrative tasks as required
- Guide and redirect children in situations when conflicts arise using a variety of positive child guidance techniques
- Ensure children are accounted for at all times
- Treat all families respectfully, bearing in mind their values, culture and background
- Commitment to Health and Safety and Child Protection Policies and Procedures
- Attend all required professional development and training opportunities
- Consistently provide a safe and clean environment following all cleaning procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned
