Description:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Advance Diploma, Diploma and/or Degree in Early Childhood Special Education
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in teaching children with special needs (0-8 years of age) in a group setting
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- A LOVE of young children
- Excellent writing, speaking, listening and communication skills
- A commitment to working with young children with developmental delays
- The Willingness and ability to learn new therapeutic skills, focusing on naturalistic intervention
- Skills in behaviour modification techniques within the classroom
- Knowledge in child development and family-centered services
- Experience in administering tools such as the Brigance and AEPS
- Take initiative and work independently when given a variety of responsibilities and assigned tasks
- Ability to make decisions and problem solve collaboratively with a team of service providers in partnership with the family
- Ability to interact in sensitive and/or complex situations and make effective suggestions to parents and caregivers
- Effective planning and organizational abilities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Good Interpersonal skills- Empathy, Cooperative, Courteous, Kind and Patient

Responsibilities:
- Lead a class and accommodate the diverse needs of young children.
- Modify instruction and make adaptations.
- Provide classroom observation and comprehensive evaluation for children 0-8 referred to the EIC Developmental Preschool Programme for suspected developmental delays or disabilities: motor skills, cognition, communication, and social-emotional areas.
- Be familiar with positive reinforcement and behavioural management strategies.
- Plan and write children’s IEP and term progress reports.
- Implement special educational strategies and techniques during the lesson.
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons and communicate those objectives to students.
- Maintain accurate and complete daily student record.
- Provide a different variety of instructional practices
- Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children’s progress, and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs.
- Assist families in understanding child development and identifying developmentally appropriate expectations
- Assist families in understanding child development, identifying developmentally appropriate expectations and providing strategies and resources to assist the family in addressing the child’s needs.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate in a courteous and professional manner with internal and external stakeholders
