Description:

FIXED-TERM FOR NINE MONTHS FROM OCTOBER 2024

An interdisciplinary research team from the University of Edinburgh’s School of Social and Political Sciences and School of Geosciences are looking for a PhD student to contribute to our understanding of aquifers. The project is aiming to develop critical social scientific methods to better understand aquifer modelling and management as meaningful social-technical practices. The student will carry out literature reviews on aquifer governance and social scientific scholarship for selected case studies, and interview relevant water managers, users and experts for each case study.

This post will be appointed at Grade UE07, step 1, which is £39,347 per annum, pro rata (£21.56 per hour).

YOUR SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES FOR SUCCESS:

  • Current University of Edinburgh PhD student.
  • An interest in water management, water policy and environmental change.
  • Ability to carry out literature reviews of social scientific scholarship and other documents.
  • Interest in qualitative research methods, particularly ethnographic fieldwork and interviews.
  • Knowledge of water modelling and mapping techniques and approaches.
  • Ability to work proactively with colleagues in other work areas/institutions, contributing specialist knowledge to achieve group outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate complex information clearly.
