REQUIREMENTS

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • One or more of the following required:
  • Cardiographic Tech credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained within 24 Months (2 years) of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Cardiac Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography(ARDMS) obtained within 24 Months (2 years) of hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

  • Requires successful completion of an accreditated academic program in Echocardiography according tothe RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) requirements. Must meet continuing educationrequirements of RDCS.

Work Experience:

  • Experience is preferred, not required.

Responsibilities:

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, will perform echocardiograms, TEEs, stress echoes, Holter monitors, and will operate heart monitoring equipment to produce diagnostic data. In doing so, will obtain pertinent patient information and explain the

purpose and duration of testing to the patients. Review results and arrange reports for physician review. Perform other related duties as requested by authorized personnel. Demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to provide care to the age group(s) served.

  • Confer with patients and/or family members in order to gather pertinent patient information including history of heart problems, current medications, etc., and document same in patient’s chart.
  • Explain diagnostic procedures and answer any questions that the patient and/or family may have to allay fears, anxieties and elicit cooperation.
  • Instruct and assist patients in preparation for echo, TEEs, and stress echo, and Holter monitor application. This includes assisting the patient to assume the appropriate position for echo and TEE heart monitor device or applying electrodes for echo stress testing and Holter.
  • Perform echo, TEE, and Holter monitors according to policy.
  • Apply heart monitor ensuring device is properly secured and functioning in order to produce recording of heart activity over an extended period of time.
  • Record appropriate data during procedures.
  • According to physician’;s orders, remove Holter monitor device and analyze recording to identify heart patterns and potential cardiac pathology. Alert physicians of any significant abnormal heart pathology.
  • Route data including Echo-Holter video recording, echo and strips to physicians for interpretation.
  • Maintain all equipment in clean and proper working order and replenish supplies as necessary. Perform minor repairs as necessary and notify supervisor of serious malfunctions.
  • Perform miscellaneous clerical duties including answering telephones, filing records, preparing patient charges, etc.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and techniques in the field by reading appropriate journals, books and other literature. Attend related seminars and conferences when available.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by authorized personnel.
  • Take call through rotation.
  • Essential Functions:
  • Ability to read and write in order to obtain and record pertinent patient information and understandtechnical manuals.
  • Ability to perform non-complex arithmetic calculations for test results.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with patients and/or family members,fellow workers and physicians.
  • Analytical skills necessary in order to review w data, identify cardiac pathology and irregular heartpatterns.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to walk and stand for approximately 30% of the work day.
  • Ability to carry weights of under ten (10) pounds for approximately 20% of the work time whencalibrating and repairing equipment ad fitting patients for devices.
  • Ability to push echo machine to patient rooms to obtain echoes.
  • Working Conditions:
  • Normal echo laboratory and patient care environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, andtemperature. Infrequent (less than 10% of work time) exposure to infection and/or contagious diseasewhen administering tests to patients.
  • Orientation Requirements:
  • Must attend Medical Center new hire orientation and department orientation.
