    KGS Group is seeking an Assistant Department Head to join our Ecology & Environmental Impact Assessment team in Winnipeg, MB.

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

Working closely with the Department Head of Ecology & Environmental Impact Assessment you will assist in leading the department, using your skills and experience to help motivate employees to achieve KGS Group’s business goals and objectives while promoting the department and KGS Group culture. You will assist with coordinating technical activities, ensuring project deliverables are met and managing resource allocation. You will play a key role in fostering employee development, improving efficiency and enhancing productivity through effective people management.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated effective and efficient organizational and time management skills, proven business development track record, and proven team leadership experience. You will serve as the primary liaison between your department team, your Department Head, and other departments within KGS Group as we expand these technical services across the country.
Other specific roles and responsibilities may include the following, where the Department Head will assign tasks and share duties with the Assistant Department Head as applicable:

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Working with the Department Head and other senior managers to build a team of qualified environmental practitioners comprised of personnel with the necessary technical expertise.
  • Working with HR, the Department Head and senior management, you will support and lead employee recruitment, promotion, retention, succession planning, department culture, and staff career streaming.
  • Managing a diverse team of environmental professionals, technicians and support staff.
  • Actively engaging in business development by identifying opportunities and securing new clients and projects for the department.
  • Managing project delivery, client satisfaction and client retention.
  • Providing technical oversight and mentoring on proposals and environmental deliverables.
  • Facilitating coordination of multi-disciplinary work and inter-departmental activities.
  • Tracking department key performance metrics for your geographic region and managing staff efficiency including workload distribution.
  • Building a positive working environment and proactively addressing concerns raised by employees.
  • Ensuring employees have access to tools, training and support that helps them develop and achieve success in their positions.
  • Working with the Quality Management team to uphold quality standards and procedures within the department.
  • Working with the Health and Safety Team to reinforce the development of a top in class safety culture and ensure required safety training and equipment is available to all personnel.
  • Conducting annual employee performance reviews.
  • Facilitating team-building activities and professional development of staff.
  • Manage environmental permitting and planning projects of varying scopes as well as managing project personnel.
  • Working closely with the Department Head and other Assistant Department Heads to coordinate resource allocation in and outside of your geographic region.
  • Other roles and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Head or senior leadership.
